Is shanking an acceptable form of discipline?

Growing up if I ran my mouth you get the shiv.
would get prison shanked on whenever I made a scene but looking back, I wonder if that technically counts as abuse? I turned out okay so maybe it worked (It didn't even really hurt, I just pretended it did so they wouldn't spank as long) But maybe I should be angry about this in hindsight?
Do parents here shank their children?
