Last year, the Inaugural 1v1 Showdown broke a longstanding record to become the largest tournament ever run on webDiplomacy, with over 100 players competing and over 500 games played before xorxes took the gold and the 1500

This year, we're bringing it back and making it better. Last year we only ran a France vs Austria tournament - this year we're running both a France vs Austria and a Germany vs Italy Showdown, and you do well in both, you could win up to 6000

The Details
Each round, you will play one set against your designated opponent. A set consists of two games, one as one country and one as the other, along with a third tiebreaker game if necessary. The tiebreaker will have random country assignments, and if that game draws, it will be counted as a win for the player who drew the statistically worse country (France in FvA, Italy in GvI).
The tournament is Double Elimination - this means if you lose your set, you're not out! You have to be defeated in two sets to be eliminated from the tournament.
That's pretty much it for the basics - you can find a more in-depth explanation of the rules on the tournament page. This tournament is open to all, so feel free to join regardless of how experienced you are with the variants!
The signup form is linked at the very top of this post.
New Prizes!
The Prize Pool for each tournament is the same as the prize pool for last year's tournament:
1st: 1500 points
2nd: 600 points
3rd/4th: 300 points
5th-8th: 100 points
9th-16th: 50 points
However, there's a bonus if you participate and do well in both the GvI and FvA Showdowns - if you comes 16th or above in both tournaments, your total winnings will be doubled.
This means that if you place 16th in FvA and 1st in GvI, you will win (1500+50) * 2 = 3100 points. If you come first place in both tournaments, you'll hit the jackpot of (1500+1500)*2=6000 points. There's a huge amount to play for here!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm aiming to start the tournament in two weeks time, on the 15th of January.
