Announcing the 2022 Virtual Diplomacy League

#1 Post by kgray » Mon Feb 28, 2022 11:52 pm

Hey everyone! A new season of the Virtual Diplomacy League is starting on Saturday, March 12th, with rounds starting at 3:00am EST, 10:00am EST and 5:00pm EST. These are live games played through Discord voice chat with turns adjudicating every 15 minutes. If you've never tried playing Diplomacy in this format before, I highly recommend giving it a try! Myself and several other webDippers are regulars.

Games take 5-7 hours, and top tier players from around the world live stream every game and provide commentary!

I'd love to see more webDippers get in on this type of play. Top players in the league will get an invite to the DBN Invitational Tournament next January, which brings top face-to-face, extended deadline and live 'virtual face-to-face' players together in one event.

Here is more information on VDL: https://diplobn.com/vdl/

Hmm. Just visited the Discord server and had a look around. The March VDL games are listed, as well as the March and May games in the Tour of Britain. It's the latter I found... surprising.

According to the server, the Tour of Britain games both start at 3am UTC. Does this make the Tour of Britain an American event? Or has someone mixed up am and pm?

Misread it, sorry: The Tour of Britain games both start at 3pm, not the 03:00 UTC time also applied to these links. Somebody had a brain fart

You may have misread it, but for all practical purposes the tour of Britain is an American event.

Anyway, hope to see some more webdippers trying their hand at the VDL next weekend.

What kgray didn't mention is that usually players sign up for one or sometimes two games in a weekend. If you sign up by a certain date (usually approx. Thursday), you're guaranteed a game by Zach (the guy in charge). If you sign up late, or you sign up for a second game, you're treated as a standby and may or may not play according to numbers. Sign up by going to the server and if you can't see how to sign up, you can ask there or DM Zach on Discord.
