Jk, I projected all kinds of anon issues and got rid of it. I don't think this kind of tournament needs a server. Perhaps I could have kept it till the games actually started.

I agree. Players have to join this site anyway to play in this year's ODC, so they can simply set up an account earlier to be a part of any pre-tourney threads.

Discord is a chat room technology that is used mainly for gaming. It has a desktop app, website, and phone app interface so you can use it on any platform. This one is just for people to talk about the tournament and diplomacy and meet other people playing or observing the tournament, but will not be required for the tournament.

The site will never ask you or require you to join a server for a tournament unless that server has been approved by the moderation team. That said, unofficial ones like this one should be an interesting group of people and fun, so you should consider it.

Thanks jmo. I actually have used it before but wasn't sure about its role in ODC. I didn't want to miss out on something. And I was being crotchety.
