I'm not sure yet, but probably around the time the first one ends, depending upon how fast the other games move. I want to give gunboaters the same feelings of pressure and intensity that come with being one of the last games and having your teammates rely upon you to get them through.CWagYourTail wrote: ↑Sun Mar 25, 2018 6:42 pmAny word on when the second gunboat game will be made?

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
We have some fascinating games going on right now, but I'd just like to highlight a few for you all.
gameID=219097 features a dead Austria by the end of 1903
gameID=219096 contains some of the most entertaining public press I've read in a while.
I highly suggest everyone spectate the other games so they can see just how big and crazy this tournament is :) Full game lists can be found on the tournament site (or just generally add a few numbers to your gameIDs). In the meantime, keep at it! I can't wait to see what the rest of this tournament brings.

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Hi all, two quick announcements.
First - I'll be starting Round 2 of the gunboats within the next week. I'll be in touch with captains with the links and passwords.
Second - We might be in need of a substitute for a team. If you have been watching the tournament and are interested in joining, or were unable to join a team to begin with, please get in touch with me.

I have an update for everyone. GB2 is started, though a little later than anticipated. Mea culpa on that one. If you're a team captain, send out those links! If you're a gunboater, harrass your captain for the PW and gameID - its sitting in his mailbox.

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
And we have our first completed game! https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=219097
Group B gunboat 1 has finished in a draw between peterlund (Kalmar Unionen), erzetael (Poland) and Penguin_XX7 (Silicon Valley)
It was sure an exciting game to watch. To be honest though, I was certain this was going to end in an Italian solo. Very surprised that it ended up in a draw.

Well, both Germany and I as France luckily realized the same time that we had Italian knifes at our throats. 100% cooperation from both sides was required to stop the Italian solo. One pivotal event was me France "borrowing" DEN from Germany to get another important build when the Italian attack onto me was underway. But I think Germany realized the need for that and then I also voluntarily left DEN for the NTH. Thanks to Germany for not stealing BEL from me, since I think we would have lost if I had to remove a unit due to that.goldfinger0303 wrote: ↑Fri May 04, 2018 1:24 pmIt was sure an exciting game to watch. I don't want to take away from your play, but I think the responsibility solely rests on Italy. Him taking Marseilles should've ended the game, but starting in 1905he played far too conservatively in the East. Had he merely entered Ukraine before E and R were eliminated, there's nothing you and Germany could've done.

I know, right? Imagine a yo-yo in a gunboat. The swinging toy will hit some button and cause a missile to fire! Yo-yo's belong on shore. NOT in a gunboat.

Agree that Italy was a bit too passive in the East to achieve the solo, but I cannot really see what he could have done better in the West more than guessing right all the times. I threw in a serious defence force against the italian assault leaving myself open to a possible German stab. As a result it was very hard for italy to make any progress in the West even after he occupied Marseille with a fleet.goldfinger0303 wrote: ↑Fri May 04, 2018 8:34 pmI don't want to take away from your play, but I think the responsibility solely rests on Italy. Just double support holds on Marseilles would've been enough, so long as Tyrolia never fell.
Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Turning game to good position require some skill. Turning game to the point where solo can be pushed for require even more skill. Taking a solo regulary require combination of skill, experience and factor X. I call that factor killer instinct.
When game of diplomacy is aproaching to the level where solo can be attempted it is crucial to make a push in exactly the right time. If you push a little too early or little too late solo attempt can fail. Many people are very skilled in this game but does not have that instinct. There is no strategy guide or mathematical point that determinate that perfect point as it depends on many ingame factors different for every game. Some people has that killer instinct that tells them when is the perfect time to strike.

Tredecicentupling your team's score from the previous tournament is quite the feat.
