Fall 2019 Champions League
Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
It’s settled then!
I play better slow as well but as they say the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few
Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
Hello guys. I have learnt today that I must go abroad for a 3 weeks mission end of November. I will not have to time to organise the tournament... Sorry for that.
Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
So, one last try to get this going? What are the odds of convincing the mods to allow a TD to play in a 1v1 tournament?

Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
I can probably run this after about Dec 15th, although might need to be delayed further than that given people will probably be busy over christmas...
Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
I emailed the mods in late November, detailing a way to TD (and/or co-TD with someone, perhaps RJ!) the tournament while playing, the response was:
“We will never approve a tournament where the TD or co-TD plays, so that is off the table.”
Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
I emailed about starting signups in early January, but whenever you are ready I’m confident people will sign up, so thank you in advance!captainmeme wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 10:45 pmI can probably run this after about Dec 15th, although might need to be delayed further than that given people will probably be busy over christmas...

Heh, sorry guys my bad.

@captainmeme
First: it would be great if you could run this! One proposal. There are several top players who have fallen off the GR list due to inactivity. (I think the community OD'd on 1v1 competitions after the showdown + CL + belt + crown going at the same time, and then the bots arrived...) There should be some opening in the sign up procedure which allows them to enter even though they are no longer ranked. Maybe people can enter with their most recent 1v1 rank?

Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
i personally stopped playing for a few months. when i came back, the KotH style Belt and Crown stopped since last summer. so, i concur with RoganJosh that we need more activity

Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
I'm actually now thinking that I should start in January, to give players time to get back on the Elo list. It also means there's time to fix the fact that bot games are currently included in the ratings, because that's skewing things quite a lot at the moment.RoganJosh wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 3:19 pm@captainmeme

Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
My general hope is to have some time over the holidays to fix some minor things like the bot games appearing in the GR query at all.
Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
@captainmeme If you have the time, you could revisit the 1v1 articles on your blog. While they are good introductions to the metagame, there are a lot of details and nuance that haven't been explored.

Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
Quick update on this:
The webDip dev team are still working on a good solution to remove bot games from GR, but in the meantime, I implemented a somewhat hacky solution that calculates 1v1 Elo excluding all games played by Kestas Bot. The resulting 1v1 GR is here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
Note this is all time (no dropoff) because that's what I'm planning to use for the tournament. It's likely tournament signups will take a little while because my process will be inviting the top 32 players (minus myself), then moving on to the next if people decline or don't respond until the tournament fills.
I also need to do a few more things to get the go-ahead on this from the mod team, but I'll keep yall updated.

Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
I think I've been out of the loop on the variants for far too long to speak with any kind of authority on the current metagame :D But I'd be happy to host a guest post if anyone else wants to add to the articles there. I might write another if I get properly playing again, but I'm not certain I was ever the right person to be writing these, since my play tends to be based more on instinct than longterm strategy.

Will you be seeding/inviting players based on their FvA Rating rather than their Overall Rating?
PS - Good luck getting the go-ahead from the mod team, though hopefully you won’t need it!

Re: Fall 2019 Champions League
Good question! I was planning to use overall just because I forgot FvA individual rating existed (it didn't when I was playing :D ), but going by FvA rating makes more sense so I'll do that.
I've also decided that I'm going to skip players who haven't been active for more than a year when sending out PMs, just to speed things up; they can still sign up by PMing me or posting here if they're still around, they just won't have a guaranteed spot.
