Re: DUNE 2021

It's a good story, but if you want the full context you really need to have seen the prequel, Spice World.

Re: Why does my iPhone say no internet connection when I have WiFi?

My guess is that it's an automated phpBB exploit for something that we (probably) weren't vulnerable to.

I don't know if this has changed, but the bots used to draw if you draw, I think.

Re: Is the Diplomacy Map Unbalanced?

I think if you ignore PPSC games, the solo rate went down a bit but not a lot. Although, it sounds lower than I remember it, so the current scoring methods possibly have fewer solo victories.

Re: Is the Diplomacy Map Unbalanced?

Yes, around 60% of online games end in a solo (this was the same when I did a similar analysis in 2015)

However, most games are not between experienced (or even dedicated) players.

Re: Why does my iPhone say no internet connection when I have WiFi?

It's part of webdip's protection against multi-accounting. Sometimes it goes a bit overboard.

Re: move resolution bug

Backstabbr doesn't even allow the option of moving by convoy, See here: https://www.backstabbr.com/sandbox/5642260222574592 Backstabbr resolves this the same way that webdip does. Note that "via convoy" is only necessary if the convoying fleet doesn't belong to the player who owns the army - see th...

Re: move resolution bug

the attack in this convoy is considered to come from Eng I don't believe this is in the rulebook. I think that's a convenient restatement of this rule (which *is* in the rulebook): A Convoyed Attack Doesn’t Cut Certain Supports A convoyed Army doesn’t cut the support of a unit supporting an attack ...

Re: Screwed up orders

For those playing along at home, in an ideal world my preferences are: By default webdip would allow any order at all. There would be a "check my orders" button where it would warn you if your orders were inconsistent or illegal. Part of the reason I never built this is that the adjudicator isn't we...

Re: Screwed up orders

So anyway, a serious technical answer: The way the webdip adjudicator works means it's not possible to issue some of the orders that you can in FtF / other sites (not just because the interface won't let you put them in). You can see some of this in the webdip DATC page, where some of the test cases...

Re: Screwed up orders

Sometimes people in face to face read other players order pads before they're submitted. But webdiplomacy doesn't support this either.

There are still ways to issue orders that don't make sense in webdiplomacy.

Re: Site certification expired

Yes, thanks mods + everyone who helped. Not me this time!

When I was a mod, I only felt the paycheck was too low on days where Jamiet made unfounded accusations and was generally belligerent in the forum. But now I don't have to write polite responses, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Re: Site certification expired

Jamiet, it’s good to see that you haven’t become any less ungrateful in the six years since I stopped moderating the site. If you’re still unhappy, I’m sure you’re entitled to a refund on your monthly subscription. Well, I’m sure you’re entitled, at least.

It’s only wrong on world. Pretty sure webdip does it “right” for the classic map.

If I recall correctly, there’s a lookup table for it, so it’s probably an easy fix.

I'm 25, which means that back in the good old days around 2015 when my persona shined through on this forum in such lovable, professional ways I was about 8.
Bo, have you considered playing some games to improve your math skills? I recommend Uno.
