Re: User relationship management
Re anonymous games, the usual email we receive says something like "I think Italy and Austria are cheating in game #123", not "Player Foo and Player Bar are cheating". So if the system allowed for reporting countries in a game instead of players, anon games would not be an issue.

Re: What should be done in this situation?
From the "Help - moderator policies" page: We will only force games to draw if they are at a stalemate with no SC's changing hands and no possible sign of a breakthrough. If alerted to such a scenario; we will email the player(s) holding the game up and ask them how they plan to break through. If we...

Re: Scheduled Time/All Players have Joined
Live games start at the scheduled time; non-live start when all players have joined. The reason for the difference is that in live games phases are so short that players would easily miss a few turns before even realizing that the game started. Phases advance when all players have entered and readie...

Re: Pronouns in Account Bio
@native speakers... someone once told me that all country names are feminine in English (this is not the case in other languages: in Italian for instance Galles [Wales] is masculine while Scozia [Scotland] is feminine). So the correct way of speaking would be to always use feminine pronouns, somethi...

Re: Three-Player Variant?
There are a few on vDip. Classic FvGvA and IvEvR, which should be relatively easy to port, and then some true variants: 1066, Verdun and Hundred, but I don't think there will be enough interest to implement those

New players' game
Hi all we mods often receive requests from new members, who aren't able to join any games because of their zero Reliability Rating. Of course they can create a new game, or play a game against bots; but I just created a new game with no RR requirement, and will create others if this works (I will le...

Re: Is the Diplomacy Map Unbalanced?
There's something I don't understand in your data... do you mean that almost 59% of those games ended in a solo? That contrasts starkly with my experience

I'm afraid many of us suffered the same as you, Jamie. It is awful.
And, Octavious, I would like to share your optimistic view, but it is in retreat, not defated still: let's keep our guard up

Re: Worldwide decline in Diplomacy game
Ooops, I had a look at the code, and a lot of localization tools are already there! If I understand correctly, though, all is built on the assumption of one language for each server, so that would be the big issue to deal with for a multi-locale install

Re: Worldwide decline in Diplomacy game
1) In the mobile game Conspiracy every game has a special mark Flag of the Language which is used in this game by the players. Also this flag-option is present in new game search filter. It's very easy to implement. I'm not a webDip contributor but I have quite some experience in i18n / l10n projec...

Re: Takeover Position Needed
I see a lot of games in the open position list have a "BotGame" flag. What does that mean please? It means one human player is playing against AI bots - 6 of them in a Classic game, or 1 of them (of a different kind) in a 1vs1 game. You can create a bot game of your own if you want to see how it wo...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
I like to fiddle around a bit with the game stats. So this is my MVP ranking for 7-players games, just sorting by total points scored, and then by points in the finals. I, rather arbitrarily, set a cutoff at 170 pts total, i.e. around 30% more of the average result (454 / 7 * 2). rank player team qu...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
So I've been away for a few days, but I wanted to join in congratulating gold medalists Yorkshire Puddings, silver medalists Eastern Canada, and - why not - also my teammates, bronze medalists Prosecco. But actually, congrats to everybody who played, all games have been quite high level and fun. And...

Many sites are now offering an "adjust cookies" option where you basically can refuse all cookies (and probably leave the site) accept only "essential" cookies: temporary Session ID's, the "cookie preference" cookie, ... also accept "operational" cookies: "stay connected" or "remember me" cookies, i...

Re: Screwed up orders
Sometimes people in face to face read other players order pads before they're submitted. But webdiplomacy doesn't support this either. That would be a super interesting development, especially so if it was limited to a few selected players... the perfect cheat... just don't let jmo, bo, pw and all ...

Re: Screwed up orders
If I remember correctly the only well known platform which allows for impossible orders is BackStabbr, and no one but the devs knows if it was an intentional choice or a bug that they chose not to fix. That said a few people thinks impossible orders can be useful in gunboat as a way to signal intent...
