Re: Diplomacy As Αn Inspiration's Source
I'm still waiting for sponsorship deals on my novel. Funny, I thought that they would start pouring in.

Re: Diplomacy As Αn Inspiration's Source
I'm regularly reminded of my CRABS treaty (for Common Regulatory Aegean Body of Safety, of course) from the Group C public press game in the 2010 World Cup. One day it'll surely inspire me to write an epic romance novel about venereal diseases. Picture the forthcoming novel as a cross between the Co...

Re: Site certification expired
I'm terribly sorry I didn't notice there's already a forum thread about this -- Oddly enough having Chrome warn you the site is unsafe every single time you load a page kind of makes it difficult to navigate the site and find information. Who'd have thought? Your really should check out that other ...

"Marwan II suffered a major defeat at the Battle of the Great Zab near Mosul (Jan. 750) and fled to Egypt, where he was captured and killed (Aug. 750)."

Re: SSL Certificate
The real question is why webdiplomacy doesn't redirect to https by default. Seems like a simple rewrite rule in the apache config... I believe that webDiplomacy did redirect to https for some years. I didn't realize that it didn't redirect to https anymore. Although maybe I'm misremembering: We've ...

I don't know that variant, but try starting here and you won't have to worry about the errors on The Variant Bank:

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
Peregrine Falcon: Have you checked the math on that? 1) through 3), if I understand you correctly, are basically the current scoring rules stated differently. I don't agree with 4) since, as you say, the classic map games are more important. I think that a somewhat convoluted but more precise tiebre...

Re: Pacifist Diplomacy ended - England wins
Awwww, that's so cute! Sorry that we disappointed you, TrPrado. There was another game that played out until 2014 because the last 2 people decided they wanted to set the record and then draw. I'm hoping the Public Press game from a few years back outlasts that and sets the record, since it's alread...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
You know, I don't have a tiebreaker in place for the Group Stages because its just so unlikely it would ever happen....but this was close indeed. And if Sons of Vlad and Great Lakes tie in the Finals, that does make the tournament's only tiebreaker invalid. I would honestly have to consult with the...

Re: Results if no moves are submitted
The webDip 'house rules', as you put it, are posted here: https://webdiplomacy.net/datc.php Here is how webDip interprets "furthest from home": 4.D.8 - D - In civil disorder units will be removed by distance from the nearest supply center, allowing armies to move over any territory, and fleets to on...

Re: The Longest Game Ever - A Commentary
Should be noted though that if you post links to external sites (like webdip) youtube will automatically remove them, nothing I can do on that end. Ugh, that's exactly what happened. So I think that I managed to post different versions of everything that automatically got removed, except for one po...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
You call a desire to finish a tournament within living memory of when it started "a hurry"? These games started THREE MONTHS AGO. I don't think I'm in a hurry. I just believe that an event is best when you can still remember the beginning by the time you get to the end. Ooooo, a whole three months ...
