Good to know. I thought taking over positions was a nice thing to do, to let a game continue naturally, but now I know that I'm actually just tossing away my rating points
Only if you lose! Good luck lol

Re: GR Calculator

Not to my knowledge. But I'm also not a site admin or anything. I have no behind the scenes knowledge of how any of the formula works beyond what's posted publicly. I'd assume that taking over a position is the same as starting a game from the beginning.

GR Calculator

We all love seeing the points go big, but the real measure of skill on this site is Ghost Rating. Sometimes I wanted to know how much GR I could gain or lose if I took over a position for someone else. Or how much this press variant or that map might get me. How much more valuable is a 3 player draw...

Three way draw awards 100 GR player 1/3 of 60 = 20, minus his/her contribution of 5.714286 to the GR pot, for a net increase in GR of 54.285714
I would expect a net increase of 20 - 5.71 = 14.29
With switching Actual - Estimated Scores, 14.29 is what I get as well.

I'll mess around with that. I feel like I did that and it didn't work right. But I'm trying it now and it DOES seem to work with that...

Ghost Rating Formula

I can't figure out WHAT I've done wrong, but I'm working on a little GR Calculator in Google Sheets just to be able to plug in guesses at some stuff and see what outcome I need to increase GR. But SOMETHING is clearly not working correctly with the math I've got and I don't know where I've screwed u...

Re: New Board UI testing

Only thing I really want is the old style of units being at the end of arrows so I can see both phases at once on a board which is huge for reading the board in live games, but ultimately that's a tiny issue compared to all the good the redesign has done. Absolutely phenomenal job done by the redes...

Re: New Board UI testing

One point of feedback is that it would be nice to have links to people's profiles in non-anonymous games. Sometimes it's useful to look at someone's history and see how they normally play a given country. If you're England and they're France and you KNOW they opened to the Channel in their last 5 ga...

Care to inform people what DiplomacyWinks might be for those of us not willing to watch a 2 hours video just to find out?

Re: Make Friends, then Choose Enemies

Have just joined the site and looking forward to a few games! Am interested in how we ensure people with friendships don’t taint the game and work against lone wolfs or noobs like me? Well there are a couple things in place. First off Rule 2 (no metagaming) exists. It prevents anyone who knows each...

There are not any active mods currently, volunteering is unfortunately down significantly these days. I have addressed that game though.
Oh goodness, I didn't know that. Maybe I should look into what that role is to see if I can help!

Re: No mod response

Interesting, glad to know I'm not alone? Concerned that it seems to be a problem site-wide. Rule 2 is no metagaming, playing games with people you know outside the game. It really ruins the experience of a game (and kills any desire to play games here) if people are friends IRL and agreeing to work ...

No mod response

I sent the mods a message about a user breaking Rule 2 with all the info and links etc a week ago and then sent a follow-up e-mail 2 days ago and still haven't heard anything back. In my experience the mod team has always been super responsive and on top of things which leads me to think there might...

Oh this is so very tempting. After The Masters I've basically stopped playing. This seems interesting though. The 48 hour phases is rough but I see the need for some folks.

Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

I wasn't committed to 10 minutes specifically, but 5 minutes usually isn't long enough for long conversations. So maybe 7 minutes? And I think there is some kind of setting I've seen in like Rulebook Press where there's no press in retreats or builds and also there's no option to "Save" moves. You h...

Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

So I was thinking about my own play in this tournament and brainstorming about ways to improve it. Asking people to play consistently at a high level for a literal year is a HUGE ask. Add onto that the massive turn length and you have games stretching out for ages, people not even remembering who th...

Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

Yeah, I firmly disagree with the metagaming strategy that was employed in the game that everyone was taking about. Totally against the spirit of the tournament and rules. That being said, players at this level shouldn't be so stupid as to hurt their OWN chances of victory by giving someone else a so...

Re: Announcing the 2020 Masters Tournament

I have NO idea what I'm talking about, so feel free to think this is stupid. Is there any fruit to the idea of NEGATIVE points? Like...you could lose points for something. Like...being at the bottom of the board in a draw? Like you'd rather be eliminated or even survive with someone winning than be ...
