Re: RR Feedback & Review - have changes achieved their aims?

Using excused missed turns has minimal penalty and is recovered quickly. What you seem to be complaining about is the length of time you're penalised for Civil Disorders. Yet, those have massive impacts on the game and really should be penalized heavily. Anything less than one year is too short; it'...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

Very impressive results from The Yorkshire Puddings. You folks were absolutely dominant and certainly deserve this win! Thanks to all the other players for the great competition. It was a lot of fun to go up against such good competitors. Thanks to Gold for running this tournament so well; it was in...

Re: webDiplomacy.net new server

Idk if this makes sense since I haven't read that part of the gamemaster or board code, but when a player hits ready would it make sense for the board code to check if all players are readied up in just that game and set a flag for the gamemaster code then?

And another thing I noticed just now: the dates are off.
That's always been the case. The end date is the date of the next phase would end.
It's not always been the case, but it certainly has been the case for quite some time. It's not a new problem introduced by the server change.

Re: Site certification expired

Yes, sorry about that. I think I phrased my response too directly. Didn't want to cause a pile on in either direction, towards you (thatwasawkward) or towards the devs. But I think all I did was bring more attention to your post :/ I'm not trying to ignore site issues and sugarcoat problems. I just...

Re: France vs Austria Bot Challenge

That is an odd quirk of the bot! Good find! And to add to what RoganJosh said, the DATC is also just a series of things to decide upon based on multiple conflicting iterations of the rules. (Although conforming to the most recent rules, published in 2000 [the 2015 rulebook doesn't contain any wordin...

Re: webDiplomacy's interpretation of the victory rules

I personally find the tension between rationality and irrationality one of the more interesting parts of Diplomacy. I like that you can include zero-unit, zero-home-SC powers in the draw. If a power without any units can convince everyone else to still let them live, they deserve that draw. (And I d...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

Peregrine Falcon: Have you checked the math on that? 1) through 3), if I understand you correctly, are basically the current scoring rules stated differently. If you're asking if I have run models to estimate what distribution of points we'd actually be likely to see in a tie, I have not. If you're...

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!

Yeah, imo the best tie-breaking list would look something like... 1) # of solos 2) Points from draws not including SC bonus 3) Total SCs 4) # of 1v1s won 5) Sudden death 1v1 challenge For 1), if one team solos and the other does not, the team that solos deserves to go on. Yes, this means solos are h...

Maybe you can start a tradition of marking each half-decade with a Pacifist Diplomacy game?

I like the idea of making one of the FP games RB HDV! Would change up the dynamic and requires somewhat different skills to work with.

3 of our 4 members are pretty much on the Great Lakes too. Maybe that's the source of our success. Just drinking the effluent from your Diplomacy incubators.

I'm just a naive pacifist who believes too much in an ethical Diplomacy.
I believe there's an ongoing game of the infamous pacifist variant that has had a number of CDs. Perhaps they'd let you fill one?

Re: Soloing as Italy

You hipsters are all wrong. Italy is weak just as everyone has always thought. I gotta agree with Yonni here. Italy is tactically weak. It's not tactically vulnerable , but I'd say it has worse access to the 18 centres needed for a solo than any other power except maybe Turkey. But as many allude t...

Re: Worldwide decline in Diplomacy game

I suppose you'll get much more of it if you or JMO or Kestas instal Vdip and Ru-server variants. Also we need posibility to select the language of interface and language-rooms, where you can create games between the chineese-speaking or russian-speaking players, etc. I really think it's a bad thing...

I did, but there are technical barriers to implementation. I'm actually intending to take a look at the code to see if it's an easy fix when I have some time over the holidays.
