Re: play.webdiplomacy.net

I appear to have found a bug. The URL for the game is https://play.webdiplomacy.net/beta/?gameID=420538 and I have builds but cannot use them due to having no vacant home centres and the game is not progressing. Some other remarks I have: It would be very useful to have a way to see the orders each ...

Re: New Board UI testing

Longtime map wondering: Why recolor territories (e.g. Syr gets shaded green after being occupied by Ita) at all? It's not a feature of the tabletop game, and it seem like it could be visually prejudicial against powers that occupy the larger territories on the map (poor Rus). Also, if this change a...

Re: 2021 Face-to-Face Diplomacy Calendar

Is there a 2022 calendar? https://www.diplomacybriefing.com/diplomacytournaments is the most complete list currently online. It's not fully up to date (Weasel Moot has announced 24-25 September as dates) and I'm not sure all the smaller events listed there are actually going on. There is one wrong ...

I hadn't spotted that you'd rigged it so nobody else had the right to build, which is quite elegant.

Re: A France vs Austria sandbox

How did it take 12 years to set up the FvA position?

Doing it in four is not hard: https://www.backstabbr.com/sandbox/5108085713797120

I wonder if it can be done in three. My intuition leans towards yes.

Re: Announcing the 2022 Virtual Diplomacy League

Anyway, hope to see some more webdippers trying their hand at the VDL next weekend. What kgray didn't mention is that usually players sign up for one or sometimes two games in a weekend. If you sign up by a certain date (usually approx. Thursday), you're guaranteed a game by Zach (the guy in charge)...

Re: Announcing the 2022 Virtual Diplomacy League

You may have misread it, but for all practical purposes the tour of Britain is an American event.

England isn't the only place where first class cricket is pushed towards the end of summers. Australia is currently in the midst of a two-month period of exclusively hit and giggle cricket at the domestic level.

Is anyone else disturbed by the poor addition in the English tables?

(also some of those German and Austrian openings are insane)

The Ken Lowe judge started in 1987, so yes for something from the 1980s.

Re: Scoring systems - proportional to supply centres

The simple system you propose is better than squares, and fairly similar to KISS (http://daanz.org/sc-kis.htm). KISS has not been used much, but Cricket, which is similar again, has been used successfully. I do not understand the popularity of squares. The first place it appeared to my knowledge was...

Re: Theory/strategy books?

Diplomatic Pouch has some good stuff. diplomacy-archive.com is good too. It also contains the only full-length strategy book I know of: The Game of Diplomacy, by Richard Sharp. In terms of books, there's also Conor Kostick's "The Art of Correspondence in the Game of Diplomacy". This is geared towar...

Re: Bug or I misunterstood the rules?

There's a newer rulebook available online (easy to search and find) that is the 5th edition from 2008. In keeping with a tradition of bloat, it is an even larger pdf file.

Italian SMY-CON succeeds and dislodges CON. (2v1)
Russian ANK-SMY succeeds too.

Re: Auto Move Where Player Has No Choice

The confusing thing here (and what might be considered a bug) is that if you go to archived orders it repeats Springs orders as orders for Fall, even though Fall never actually happened. The way we handle ending a game gets kinda weird for... reasons Yes this was really confusing to me. I looked at...

Re: Auto Move Where Player Has No Choice

@Squigs44, of course supply centres are not supposed to be updated until after retreats. In the game that qrzy linked to, the fall retreats have been adjudicated and the supply centre charts have not been updated to account for Austria's capture of TUN.

That is one weird edge case. I had no idea that webdiplomacy didn't update the supply centre chart after adjudicating the fall retreats phase. I would call it a bug.

Re: Auto Move Where Player Has No Choice

qrzy's post doesn't make sense to me. We are talking about the builds phase where a player has already been eliminated, so they cannot participate in any draw. I was just caught out by this today and received a warning in a live game that I missed my adjustment after elimination. Sorry to the player...
