Re: Sandbox feature

I love the Sandbox feature over at Backstabbr. Definitely great for learning how to play Dip. The Sandbox feature that Backstabbr doesn't have? The ability to just set up a sandbox by moving pieces into particular spots. Backstabbr requires you to actually play through from Spring 1901. But what if ...

Re: Is Turkey too powerful?

Oh, and those games are from PlayDiplomacy, which, AFAIK, doesn't have bots... So those are (theoretically) human-only games. That might make sense that there's such a difference in the percentages. I don't what games the AI bots were trained on here, but it would be interesting to see the differen...

Re: Is Turkey too powerful?

The dataset I found is here. Admittedly, it's six years old, so there may be new trends in way the game is played.

Re: Is Turkey too powerful?

Design flaw by developers of programming Italy to attack Austria a high percentage of the time makes Turkey very powerful in lots of bots games... I've been doing some analysis of a diplomacy moves dataset that includes over 20,000 games -- and 12% of the games, the first move from VEN is to TRI. 3...

Another great example of why we need a better final screen on the Beta edition -- you should be able to screenshot the all-34 blue map.

Re: Final map display

I'll chime in here to agree. On the beta interface (which, btw, is fantastic), the final screen is obscured by the scoreboard, and the colors aren't updated. It doesn't affect game play, but it would definitely be much nicer to be able to send a screenshot to your pals.

AI discussion forum

I would like to propose that there should be a forum area for discussion about AI diplomacy. Bug reports go here, but I was thinking about a broader place where these conversations might go. I've been playing a lot against the AIs and thinking a LOT about the implications of what we're learning here...

Re: Bots are broken tonight

Yup, so far so good! Also, thank you for your work on making bots that play pretty well. Super fun and helpful to be able to play many, many rounds of Dip. (Looking forward to playing against Cicero when that finally happens. Don't discount a paid edition of WebDip -- it'll be worth it!)

Bots are broken tonight

Bots don't seem to be entering moves tonight. I played an all-bots AI game, and nothing happened (with 3-day turns.) I then started a game with five-minute turns, invited humans, and used "fill with bots". The bots used up all their missed-turns and then crashed into civil disorder. (Kinda fun playi...
