Re: Are Atheists inherently amoral?
- I command all atheists to love one another. Now that I've done that, all atheists must follow that moral code and, if they fail to, then they're not true atheist. Therefore, atheism is a perfect moral code and only fails when it's bastardized. This doesn't work because they have no reason to cons...

I like the asynchronous nature of bulletin boards, and that phpBB doesn't try to addict users.

Re: The 2024 Tournament Through Time
Out of curiosity: Which software do you use to adjudicate the maps? I use Notepad++ and my brain to do the calculation, and I use Inkscape to edit the maps, drawing the orders more-or-less manually. So much manual work... Someone could make a tool for this if it doesn't exist already.

True. I found it on the info tab. I wonder why sandbox controls aren't among the others in controls tab.

Re: Medical Experts
Isn't it ironic that the very thing which supposedly gave us access to an infinite wealth of knowledge (that is, the internet and associated technology) also made it exponentially easier to persuade the masses of false narratives and hide the truth? The masses permit it by following feeds instead o...

This is actually a sound joke. Now it is preserved even if the bot gets deleted some day.florencepugh wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 8:45 amWhy did the scarecrow win an award?

Re: Annual Religious Thread
I always rolled my eyes a little at religious arguments that "if you remove religion the framework of society crumbles" but we're kind of watching it in real time as our society is actively collapsing, and I wonder if the lack of religion is contributing to this. I'm reminded of Aleksandr Solzhenit...

Bot games have one flaw: they don't play like real people would. No press is actually a feature, as it permits very short turns. My availability is completely random.

Re: 1 v 9 Diplomacy Game Idea
Yeah its a wirk in progress. Maybe two experts to balance it out. Not sure any good player would even bother though Without knowing the peculiarities of the Modern II variant, I'd imagine that somebody could do it just for fun. His winning strategy would be basically fooling others until he can cur...

Re: 1 v 9 Diplomacy Game Idea
Well it would be unfair if it was just a plain 1 v 9 game, no matter who the one is. Adding the unknown makes it interesting. Of course. Anonymity is the only advantage that the expert can get as long as this game mode is unsupported. Usually the odds would be evened with severe handicaps instead, ...

I know this arrangement as Barbarians at the Gate from https://riseofnations.fandom.com/wiki/B ... t_the_Gate
Except the idea here seems to be that others don't know who to defeat, but it will likely come out soon enough anyway.

The virus broke the illusion of control, that people have tried to regain since. They hoped in experimental vaccines that were consequentially rushed to market. Now we know that they don't prevent infection, but people take them as it helps them regain the illusion of control. Meanwhile the virus se...

Re: Negotiating a secret for encryption in the global press
privacy trumps encryption when the former is available. Hmm, did you get this the wrong way round? Or am I misunderstanding what you mean by privacy? If you mean "privacy" as guaranteed by a company / law / etc I'd say encryption trumps privacy. I just compare the private channels in full press to ...

Re: Negotiating a secret for encryption in the global press
I definitely agree using this method is equivalent to private press. It's a very neat trick, but it's using cryptography to work around the game rules, and if the rule of the game is "public press" using these techniques violates that and effectively makes it private press, using some very clever c...
