Re: Ghost Rating Challenge - 2025?

Hey all--here's my post-mortem as Austria in Game 1 (Venkman). Very, very long :). This is reposted from our game thread. Big-picture, I'm mostly pretty happy with how this game went, but see it more as a solo missed than a draw gained. I think I had a moment when I could have won this thing and I m...

Re: Ghost Rating Challenge - 2025?

Thank you Aristocrat--really interesting! I'm planning to write up a post-mortem too and just haven't had the time. (I was Austria)

Are you saying Jesus was De-feeted?
This is why the romans should have stayed pagan. Never would have happened to Sole Invictus

Re: Ghost Rating Challenge - 2025?

I haven't minded the many excused missed turns and pauses because I feel more frustrated by games shifting from civil disorders and new players than I do from players being slow. I feel like three days is already quite long to get press in. In game 1 players seemed to be using the excused missed tu...

Re: Ghost Rating Challenge - 2025?

I like the 3:1 length. It's helped make sure that we have had mostly good diplomacy each turn even when people have been busy. I haven't minded the many excused missed turns and pauses because I feel more frustrated by games shifting from civil disorders and new players than I do from players being ...

Re: Any point being honest here?

I'm nowhere near Yigg's level, but would be happy to be an adviser/color commentator on a learning game if that would be helpful!

Re: Any point being honest here?

I really cannot figure out what I do wrong to start off. So often I am left out or betrayed right away. I am clearly not smart and good here, but cannot learn because I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I am honest and stick to agreements, but it just doesn’t work. I think a big part of it can be ...

Re: Ghost Rating Challenge - 2025?

Players in Game 1 (Venkman) - please let me know if you need a replacement for Turkey We had a wonderful player step in, but new-Turkey has generously offered to step aside if the original player wants to re-join the game. If the original Turkish player wants to re-join, could you pm DougJoe to let...

Re: Best players you have played with:

Of course Chaqa , when the walls fell. That's what I love, those little deep cut references that just slide their way in like they always belonged there. Sokath, his eyes open! Got to say--I've never seen anyone use press better than Yigg. He's completely delightful, but also so good at understandi...

Re: Best players you have played with:

Pretty much everyone (Yigg, Theodoric, comorant, IRidePigs, Yonni, and Josef IV) in the game https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=733365 was excellent. The only one of those six I've played with twice is Theodoric and he was very good in both games. Yigg's press is crazy fun. That was the best...

Re: Ghost Rating Challenge - 2025?

Like Yigg, I'd prefer 3-day phases with rulebook press. Like Yigg, I like anonymous (though my press style will likely reveal me to all those with ears to listen). Like Yigg, I am doing my best to appear friendly and relatable an not at all like I'm yearning, desperately to crush my enemies into the...

Re: Pairs Diplomacy Observer Thread

I've never played public press before either, but it's something I've been interested in trying. I found the public diplomacy to be interesting and satisfying--there are a lot of strategies I usually use that didn't work (like proposing the same moves to multiple players with different justification...

Re: Pairs Diplomacy Observer Thread

Turkish Diplomat with a bit longer description from my perspective: My #1 early goal was to avoid a lepanto, ideally by convincing Italy to open West. My #2 goal was to get an alliance on reasonably favorable terms with either Austria or Russia. My general feeling with Turkey is that I only like to ...

Re: Pairs Diplomacy Game Thread

The global press format of the messages definitely made it hard to coordinate things between the powers. The one good thing I was able to do this game was to block the attack on Mar because I could react to the G/I diplomat's global planning. The Turkish diplomat even commented that season on tryin...

Re: Pairs Diplomacy Observer Thread

Turkish diplomat here: I'll try to write more later on my reasoning through this game, but I wanted to make a quick note about why I (and presumably the Russian diplomat) didn't provide more specific tactical guidance during the Juggernaut period. I looked at the tactical options each period and tri...

Re: Pairs Diplomacy Observer Thread

My experience with this as the Turkish diplomat is that, while I tried to stay active until I was actually out, my heart was probably in it a bit less than it would be in a normal game. This was a combination of UI--the game doesn't pop up as one of "my" games and so it takes more work to keep track...

Crowned Heads of Europe (and grubby commoners living above your station): It is I: Ahmed Tevfik Pasha, Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire and King (in exile) of Greece. I bring tidings that his Most Serene Excellency, Mehmed Han bin Abdulmejid V, Exalted Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and rightful Cal...
