Updated cult stats: it does make sense
Cult leader gifts 0 points: N-1 avenges: (N-1)*-3, income: 2N, net gain: 2N-3(N-1)
Cult leader gifts 3 points: 0 avenges: 0, income: 2N, net gain: 2N

Somehow I suspect I have been conned. I made my play too fast... I'd like to take back my move lol.

Not a cult is very much underpowered if I read it correctly if there is a 3 person not a cult then the leader gets 2N (6) and then if they do not give back those 6 points to the rest of the cult they will avenge them as there is no reason not to.

There is no forcing function for coalition leaders to actually follow through with their promises.
