"My sword is famous all over the Caribbean!"
"...too bad nobody's heard of YOU at all."

Guybrush Threepwood is correct! Well done, Foxcastle, I raise my half-melted mug of grog to you!
Heh, guess I was doomed since I've never heard of them. Good guess Foxcastle!
Guybrush Threepwood (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guybrush_Threepwood) is the main (player-controlled) character of the _Monkey Island_ series of games. In the first, 1990's _The Secret of Monkey Island_ a young Guybrush Threepwood finds himself on fictional Melee Island in the Caribbean to pursue his dreams of becoming a pirate, dealing with the dreaded ghost pirate LeChuck along the way. It's a 2d point and click adventure/puzzle game by Lucasfilm (now LucasArts). There were 5 sequels that followed, the latest being 2022's _Return to Monkey Island_. The first game was originally in 16-color EGA graphics, then a VGA version was released, and then in 1992 a CD-ROM version with remastered music was released (this is the one I have) The first two games in the series were remastered in 2009 and 2010. It's a fun play and I'd highly recommend it.

Oh, and fun fact: in that first game, there is one and only one way to die and lose the game.
I loved those games! Good pick

I had never heard of him, I found him on Wikipedia, LOL

I was surprised no one asked if the character had a wikipedia page. Did you read about the origin of the name?

Here's a link to one of my favorite songs on the soundtrack (this is from the 2009 remake): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fj5pIpjS14&t=198s
(I also really like "Stan's Previously Used Vessels", song #13).

"My last fight ended with my hands covered in blood!"
"Then I hope you've learned to stop picking your nose."

(You swordfight in the game with insults and comebacks. It's great.)
If they didn't have a wikipedia page, would they really be considered well known enough to qualify for this game? :D

I'm not sure I'd consider Larry as a "mascot", personally. When I think of mascots, I think of Mario, Sonic, Megaman, Ryu - the "primary marketing character" of those respective companies. This character isn't really that (just like Larry isn't/wasn't necessarily Sierra's primary character (I'm not sure who was, they made a lot of different games). If sweetandcool (or anyone else) wants to give a little more detailed criteria about what they consider a "mascot", that would probably help and I would re-answer that question at no cost.
I think that's about what I meant by mascot. Pretty much, if the character appears in several ads and merchandise for a company, then they would be a mascot. A company can have multiple mascots, but generally there is only one or two.

Despite being the protagonist of a successful franchise, Larry probably doesn't count as a mascot.
I think that the character I chose is similar in a lot of ways, so I will still say that the answer to the "mascot" question is no.

Nope, not LSL, although that would have been another good one.

Nope, this was not a 1st person POV game.

I disqualified Leisure Suit Larry for being a mascot, but I agree it fits a lot of the other criteria.

Don't forget, too, that I answered one of Jamie's questions with the fact that the character is the protagonist of the game he originated in. That probably answers the "mascot" question just as much as anything, really.

Also, a previous question asked about the character being in fantasy... I would not call the setting "fantasy" like, say, Tolkien or D&D (swords and sorcery) or like _The Neverending Story_ or the _Xanth_ books... but there are elements to the overall mundane setting that are not mundane.

Also, you're up to 18 questions.
16. Good guy? Mostly/sort of, but... (Sleazy Larry was great for this one, now that I think about it).
17. Initial appearance in game created by American company.
18. Initial appearance in game that is not 1st person perspective.

Two questions left!
