Definitely never heard of Ceausescu.
Ceaucescu, the revolution that toppled him, and his execution was top-of-the-newscast news every day for about a week when it happened. After that, nothing. If you weren't paying attention (or not alive/too young at the time) for that week, you would've missed it.

I learned about Chiang Kai Shek in American high school. I've heard of Tito in passing, though probably from reading stuff outside of school. Definitely never heard of Ceausescu.

The answers to some of these are making me feel like a very ignorant American

Hồ Chí Minh
It was the use of the Vietnamese diacritics that took the extra time.

This is my second guess so it counts: Ho Chi Minh.

If not him, I'll refrain from further guesses until I am more certain.
Haha, you ninja-ed me because I took too long writing that post.

Hmm, an Asian dictator who died in the 20th century from natural causes and isn't Chairman Mao.

I know i'm using up our guesses but is it Hồ Chí Minh?

Which part of Europe is in the Southern hemisphere, exactly??
None. But Stalin doesn't speak English.

I retract my President Sukarno guess.

Is it Chairman Mao?
No

Wait. I asked a two-part question only one part of which involved the Northern Hemisphere.

Shit.

So it's obviously the leader of a non-English speaking country in the Northern Hemisphere.

Duh.

Silly me.

The only Indonesian leader to die in the 20th century was President Sukarno.

I don't think he would pass the 50% dart test.

Nonetheless:

Is it former President Sukarno of Indonesia?

Was he leader of an Asian nation (not including the partly Asian countries of Russia and Turkey)?

Yes
This is interesting because the only Asian countries in the Southern Hemisphere are East Timor, part of the Maldives, and part of Indonesia.

I'll take my free guess: Josef Stalin.

If not him, my question is: was he the leader of a European nation?
