I wish this was a feature that was just a boolean setting during game creation.

Personally, I would love it if this were an option. If I had a nickel for every time I tried to join a live game and it cancelled with 6/7 players...

Ironically, I think this feature would actually make people more likely to join live games, because as it stands, if you join a live game there's about a one in a million chance that it will actually start.

Yeah I didn't realize backstabbr had bots at all :|

I am working on the bots but the priority list is:
- Stabilising them, they're still a bit fragile and need to be maintained a few times / week
- Optimising full press to prioritise human messages
- Drop games where the human player has dropped off
- A game cap to stop the bots being saturated
- Get the sleep time between messages better tuned for longer-phase games
- Ability to move the game forward when the human is ready
- A screen to quickly see the bot statuses, whether they are all caught up etc

I think the ability to fill in left over positions / CDs / etc with full press bots should come after those. I could add in the gunboat bots to fill in for non-gunboat games pretty easily, but is that what people are after?

You actually can do this with gunboat games, but not press. You should see an option to "fill with bots" if you select no press in the game creation menu.

WebDip has been implementing bots which can play the game, however it is not currently possible to have a Classic game with a mix of bots and human players.

What you should do is share the game ID and maybe some nice people like me might join it.

I'm desperately trying to play the Classic Variat along with a couple friends and filling the game with bots or non-playing countries (just as in backstabbr.com).

Is this possible on webdiplomacy ? If yes, how ?
