Gracchus is correct. Your saved orders will be carried out. Always save a preliminary set of orders to prevent missing a turn!
A lesson I've learned the hard way

I have a question similar too. If I select my orders and save them, but not ready them, when the phase timer runs out does it keep my entered but not readied orders and use those, or do I miss my turn?
I'm quite sure that it does keep the saved orders and use those. I think the difference between readying and saving is that if you ready, the game will advance if everyone has readied, while if you just save, the game will advance at the scheduled time (I'm just basing this off personal experience of having saved orders be carried out + what gimix said).

Thanks for the reply! This makes sense now.

Live games start at the scheduled time; non-live start when all players have joined. The reason for the difference is that in live games phases are so short that players would easily miss a few turns before even realizing that the game started.

Phases advance when all players have entered and readied orders - or at the deadline if at least one player didn't ready up their orders.

I am curious:

1) What controls whether or not a game starts at the scheduled time as opposed to when all players have joined?

2) What controls whether or not a game advances to the next phase when all players have entered orders as opposed to when the phase timer ends (regardless of order status)?
