Vecna was a good pick. Yet, Terry Davis is still more popular than some of the other picks. There has been numerous cases where I didn't know the pick prior to the game.

while I also have not heard of this 'Terry Davis', Vecna is a fictional character, not a celebrity
unless you count whatever actor was Vecna in Stranger Things because apparently the show's writers were seriously low on original ideas

While I had never heard of Terry Davis before (that I remember, at least), he seems quite notable, judging at least by the length of his Wikipedia article, a quite interesting read which I doubt I would have stumbled upon on my own.

Wouldn't the game be boring if the picks were all Miley Cyrus anyway?

P.S. I'm not really sure if I'd heard of Vecna before either.

That's normal. I learned about TempleOS from a collegue not long ago. I immediately decided that he could be a good 20Q candidate with unique fame.
He isn't famous.

I also thought of a couple of people like this but either the specific dates, or the Wikipedia letters, don't work.
