To explain the passes:

The mascot came out in 1974 in France, and was later introduced in 1988 in the US. While the US version seemed to be targeted at minors (many people would say that, including the US government), the French version was a little iffier and I couldn't find any good details either way on that.

On primarily meant to be read, I thought ads with some, but generally minimal, words straddled enough of a grey area to warrant the pass.
