Fun round and a good Renaissance era twist on the born in one area, but famous in another idea. I will have a new thread up in a little bit once I figure out who a good candidate might be.

Interesting guy! The entire concept of the Mamluk Sultanate is fascinating.

Oh yeah, sorry about not remembering that your free guess was also Thomas Palaiologos. Either way, the point is moot now.

All right.

Q20: Does his name appear on this list?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_state_leaders_in_the_15th_century
Yes.

Free hint: you don't have to scroll down as far on that page as you might expect.
I wonder if that hint means this person is in the Asia section?

Thomas Palailogos?

I think the answer is one of the brothers of Constantine XI Palailogos

My proposal for Q20:

Does his name appear on one of the following lists?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_state_leaders_in_the_15th_century

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_state_leaders_in_the_16th_century

Feel free (anyone) to ask this (or a modification of it) if you want to.
(I think I tend to wake up later in the morning than most of you all.) (Also, feel free to simply ask a different Q20.)

Not to get too metagamey but I remember in round 283 Hominidae once picked Boris I of Bulgaria, a seemingly obscure and random pick but a joke on the fact that the previous round was Boris Johnson. I wonder if there is some name related angle at play here.
Some kind of meta play is most likely at this point I think

I don’t know if this was QM’s intent but calling out European Turkey made me look and apparently there were a bunch of Byzantine splinter states that stuck around after Constantinople fell. I will guess Thomas Palaiologos who seems at least more interesting than anyone tied to the Golden Horde or Crimean Khanate.
No, although that's an impressively good guess considering how constrained your options are.

Were Moldavia and Georgia excluded?
I believe Moldova is landlocked therefore no Black Sea coast. But it looks like Georgia can be considered either Eastern Europe or Western Asia so maybe it’s still in play.
It is worth noting that Moldova (the modern country) is landlocked but as far as I understand from the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moldavia), Moldavia (the historical country) was not always landlocked.

This one is really tough. Good luck to the rest.
The question about the Black Sea specifically mentioned modern borders though.
