I might be wrong, but I think she was able to talk before contracting meningitis.
This is why I ultimately went with "yes". But nineteen months is pretty young.

Wow, nice one. I was completely on the wrong track and thought maybe it was someone whose first language was Creole or Gullah Geechee or something
The English as a native language pass was the key for sure, pre-1850 I thought maybe someone from the French or Spanish colonies in what is now the US, after 1850 the list gets smaller...

Nice pick and the next one will be up in a minute

Was this person born in a state (or on land that later became part of a state) that Trump won in the 2020 US general presidential election?

If yes: Free guess - Helen Keller
Yes and yes! Well done.

Clarification question: is fiction writing included under the umbrella of the arts?

Is the person on this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:19th-century_American_women ?

Edit: Or on any of the following subcategory lists under the above list: 19th-century African-American women‎, 19th-century American women journalists, 19th-century American women politicians‎, or 19th-century American women writers‎?
Yes, this person is in at least one of those categories.

Born in Mexico, Central America, or the Carribean?
No, but this only eliminates Puerto Rico and Cuba.
How so? Mexico and Central America are parts of North America
They are not part of Europe, Canada, or the United States.

So to be clear, this person was either born in the contiguous United States or Alaska, or born in Canada but somehow not Canadian.

It was my fault on the summary. There was a question "Born in Europe, Canada, or US" and "Born in North America," so they could only have been born in US + Canada (as long as they're not Canadian - I guess a non-Canadian born in Canada would still be valid).

Actually, I'm not going to count Watts's question, because Aristocrat's summary did not mention the "Europe, Canada, or the US" question I had answered yes to.
Ah. I missed that

Born after 1850?

Random thought: asking only "born after" questions would narrow down the birth date to about 18 hours if you spent all 20 questions on it (2000/(2^20)), not that playing this way would be much fun.

6, 13. Not primarily known for involvement in the arts, broadly speaking, or as an inventor, criminal, explorer, or professional speed eater
8. Has a wikipedia page in English
9. Native speaker of English (but was first passed, so answer may not be reliable)
11. Not Native American
12. Not Canadian

Native speaker of English?
Pass.
Invoke rule 3
So my understanding is that I am required to give a binary answer. I still maintain that my pass was correct, but if I'm forced to choose, I'll say "yes".

Is there a Wikipedia page (under the domain wikipedia.org, in English) about this person?
Yes, but I would avoid asking this question in the future because the answer is almost always guaranteed to be "yes".
Mostly, but not always (see game 117).
I'll see if I can put that right.
