07 May 12 UTC | Spring, 2000: [Russia]:Hi all & welcome to the game. |
07 May 12 UTC | Spring, 2000: [India]:Hi all, hope to have a good one :) |
07 May 12 UTC | Spring, 2000: [Western-Canada]:Oh wow... |
09 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2000: [Quebec]:Russia, nice point total. You have more points than all the rest of us combined. |
09 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2000: [Russia]:Yes, but I am very old & been playing a long long time. The points build up after a long period of playing time. |
10 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2000: [Quebec]:Ok, so when you were "young" was your name "Heir to The Lord Duke"? :P |
10 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2000: [Kenya]:Have you actually been young? |
16 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2001: [Quebec]:The real question is, how old the "old man" really is. :P |
16 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2001: [Brazil]:Or is he old at all? |
16 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2001: [Russia]:To answer a question or two:- I am in my 8th decade & have been playing since my mid twenties. Yes, I have been young once but in a far different world to the one we all share now. |
16 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2001: [Argentina]:If that's true, he's probably by far the most interesting person in this game |
17 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2001: [Brazil]:He is, the most interesting man in the world. |
17 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2001: [Quebec]:Hey Lord Duke, Did you ever play with JFK or Henry Kissenger by chance? :) I salute your longevity, may you reach a century. |
17 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2001: [Libya]:Wow, the game is 53 years old (according to Wikipedia) so you must have played it almost from it's inception. |
19 May 12 UTC | Spring, 2002: [Quebec]:Tis true stab did I In two years twice fact it was Praise me or kill me |
20 May 12 UTC | Spring, 2002: [India]:There once was a town called Quebec and for it the West planned a wreck if it weren't for their fleet Quebec would have been beat but they had one and so saved their neck |
20 May 12 UTC | Spring, 2002: [Russia]:Yes I played in the very early days by post & Gestetner printed magazines called "zines" & mainly face to face tournaments at university or hotel meet ups called "cons". In those days we were all polite & friendly & applauded skillful play & subtle stabs. We made loads of friends when analyising the game movements & the reasoning behind them & many of us wrote books on stratery & playing each country. We had loads of contribution from all players in the members section of the zines but a lot of it was politics based. However, a lot of personal correspondence between players who became firm friends continued by post long after the zines died a death. It was a much nicer hobby in those days & it was not blighted by rudeness, insults & threats that we have to suffer using this modern medium called the "internet". I curse the birth of computers & mobile phones. They have destroyed the fabric of society & community manners & consideration for others feelings. |
21 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2002: [Libya]:hmm... kind of funny that you believe the fabric of society was so great pre-internet when you are playing a game set during a period when that fabric was being torn asunder with no consideration for peoples lives let alone feelings. It is typical but I think misguided to think that yesteryear was somehow a better and more peaceful time than today. Also, where but on the internet could you have 17 people playing this game simultaneously? |
21 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2002: [Quebec]:A seventeen player global online monster diplomacy game. What more could you want? |
21 May 12 UTC | Autumn, 2002: [Argentina]:more players. more backstabs i say! |
