23 Jan 24 UTC | Autumn, 2: GameMaster: Game was extended due to at least 1 member failing to enter orders and having an excused missed turn available. This has un-readied all orders. |
06 Feb 24 UTC | gg well done. Got really hard to hold the line with no messaging once Rome threw his centers to you. |
06 Feb 24 UTC | GG dagabs0!! Glad I could help |
06 Feb 24 UTC | GG dagabs0!! Glad I could help |
06 Feb 24 UTC | Line was not hard to hold. All Egypt had to do was support hold Thebes and Carthage never gets to 18 in all likelihood. |
06 Feb 24 UTC | All of the ingredients were there in Autumn 7 with a minor amount of reshuffling. Saartia hold Vind Illyria support Dal Macedonia support Epirus Athens support Sparta Aegean support Crete Pelusium support Egyptian Sinai and Red Sea support Thebes |
06 Feb 24 UTC | Even AFTER Thebes fell, if Egypt just moves to retake Thebes, it would have worked in Spring 9 and a new line could have been formed. |
06 Feb 24 UTC | This was all a massive, avoidable own goal |
06 Feb 24 UTC | but gg carthage for taking advantage |
06 Feb 24 UTC | (even without Thebes, 17-17 is possible with A Macedonia instead of F Macedonia and units in Sinai, Red Sea, Jerusalem, Syrian, and Cicilan - hence why I needed the extra build Egypt was hanging onto) |
07 Feb 24 UTC | Haha, thanks folks! The Greece/Rome detent rarely lasts the whole game, but you were holding me at a stalemate, Sam, until you turned the other direction. And Persia - you're technically right... and if this game had been played by bots, then a 4 way draw would've been the outcome. However, in reality, everyone csn see the writing on the wall that I was waiting until either you or Egypt eliminated the other to draw. And since it was open, I went for the solo |
07 Feb 24 UTC | The fact that you had some unspecified plans to whittle doesn’t make giving up the solo any less avoidable You also don’t get unlimited cracks at it, only 4 turns before the mods end the game unless someone takes the bait |
07 Feb 24 UTC | That only gets enforced if there's a stalemate with zero movement for 4+ turns in a row. I just had a game last 24 years, so anything can happen in the end phase |
07 Feb 24 UTC | Zero movement from one side. You can't override the requirement unilaterally by pulling back if the other side just stays put. At least that's how it was the last time I had the rule invoked in a game. But yes in essence I agree since usually one person is dumb enough to take the bait. |
07 Feb 24 UTC | I know there were issues in the South, but I'll also own up to the fact that I'm TERRIBLE at stalemate lines. I get the concept, but actually seeing and holding them is something I'm super weak at. So I probably COULD have defended the north more strongly, but failed to do so. |
07 Feb 24 UTC | Greece - you were close to perfect; A Macedonia would have been better than F Macedonia. But it’s Thebes that cost us the loss more than anything. |
08 Feb 24 UTC | GG, wp Dagabs0. Sorry Greece and Persia. Haven't read what you wrote, but I know I made some dumb mistakes in the endgame that ruined my own strategy for a 4-way... |
