05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: oh come on now the game is not ruined. i apologized a million times for the inconvenience and thanked you for pausing. i did not beg you and i also didnt cancel because it would be unfair to you and you still call me a dickwad. i agree that the game is better off without pausing but how is it fucked up? i was just as miffed that russia extended the pause without permission because i feel i went through the proper channels of asking everyone and agreeing and he still got the same result when he shouldnt have. but the bottom line is we are 2 weeks behind in one GAME. its just a fucking game dude so chill out
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: and i think most people would agree that 2 players CDing would have ruined the game much more than this pause
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: @turkey - i understand your position entirely; but the counter view is that CDs don't have to happen if pople who are away get a sitter and CDs aren't the end of the world. It is a game afterall and if someone leaves and a country falls into CD the players have a different set of diplomatic challanges to react to - the CD will favour some and disfavour others but as you rightly point out 'It's only a game' so why would that matter?

The real problem here is that people who thinks pauses are fine and have valid reasons for thinking that also think everyone should think like that, and we don't. I think the 'no pause' camp, myself included, gave a lot of ground to the 'pause' camp and regularly agree to pauses thinking time limits would be honoured - when they are not it went to prove that our views and opinions are not respected and I fear a re-entrenchment of the two camps - if people would have respected our dissenting view more that wouldn't have happened.
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: plan ahead? was I supposed to say no to a free ticket for a music festival, worth almost 400$ just to keep the game going? I am sorry about the delay, but I just couldnt see any other way to resolve it, since I dont know anyone else who play this game and thus couldn't find a sitter - I wasn't even aware that it was allowed to do so.
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: @Russia - no one is suggesting you should have missed your festival. If it was me I would have unpaused and then requested another pause - if everyone else had of agreed the mods would have paused or turkey would have not unpaused with our agreement. If people hadn't of paused and I ended up in CD then fine - i would have made the right call in sacrificing a game to go to the festival and others would've had their say in the running of the game. Win-win.
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: Fair enough - I cannot remember if I or turkey was the last to unpause, if he was the last I wouldnt have been able to request another pause, since I had to leave right away.
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: turkey would've been last. if you had unpaused and requested a pause; we would have discussed it and asked turkey to keep the game unpaused or not.
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: but how can I vote for a new pause when the old one is still active? the only buttons would be unpause, draw cancel, or am I wrong?
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: Italy +1. Although I'm not at all in the No Pause camp, your actions were wholly inappropriate, in my opinion, Russia.
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: @russia - if you had off requested a pause and we all agreed wewould have asked turkey to kep the game paused
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: @ italy. i completely respect the views of non-pausers. i dont deny that it sucks. i dont think it ruins the game either. i also dont believe a CD necessarily ruins the game but alot of people do and clearly we would have had 2 CDs here. your proposition for russia requesting the second pause is correct and i fully agree but apparently he didnt know so lets just move on and pick up where we left off
05 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: agreed
07 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: Computer monitor dying. Responses likely to range from terse to laconic until I replace it.
07 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1905: take care.
11 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1906: DateLine London: Royal spokesperson, Sir Richard Cranium, is pleased to announce Queen Ima Douchbag's plans to reduce Bitish miltary expenditures. Just this year, the govermnment has made 12% reductions with Russian and French Help.
In related news, the Foreign Office announced most of the ruling party required emergency rectal craniotomies to relieve sever pressure on the brains. We hope they are able to think more clearly.
11 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1906: Haha, points for creativity. But I foresee explosive growth in English markets in the future.
11 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1906: I was thinking that we should hold an international peace conferene in London. Austrian, Russian and French negotiators might wish to preside over the bankruptsy of British foreign policy.
12 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1906: As I'm sure most have noticed, my time for playing has plummeted even before my monitor started dying, to the point where I'm barely managing to issue orders every phase.

So I'm leaving this message to inform you that I have found a sitter who'll be playing my games for now. Hopefully I will have enough time to return in a few weeks, and if the game continues as it has so far, it might still be going, with everyone but Germany still alive.

Good luck, all. I hope the game proceeds more smoothly with an England able to respond more quickly to messages and moves. I'll be back when I can.
12 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1906: Greetings all. This is the new PM of the UK. I look forward to the game and playing with everyone in it.
16 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: Well, I propose we draw the game and move on. much luck to all.
16 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: Congrats to all.
16 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: oh go on then :)
16 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: fine by me
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: to everyone: If we kill It and Tur and have a 4 way draw, we each get 175 points more or less. If we just draw now, we get about 120 points and everyone participates. I'm not interested in wipingg out two players who have foughtt the whole game and not NMRd jsut to get an extra 50 points. Let's just draw and move on.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: Well, unfortunately for Italy, I am.

I gave Italy his chance to be in the draw, and he turned it down by trying to help you solo.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: so the game will just drag on. I may not vote draw if they disappear and drag the game out for months. I think it's just poor sportsmanship to screw over players in a wta game when no one is going to win it.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: And I think it's poor sportsmanship to not try and get the absolute best result you can out of a game.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: as long as the game is not stalemated, a winner could occur, or a better draw could be positioned - just because your chance at a solo seems lost, there is still more years to be played out.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: I agree, just thought since you all thought we were stalemating, we mght as well draw now.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: i dont think less players in the draw always equates to a better result. sure you get more points but who really cares about points? anyway the goal of WTA is to either solo or prevent others from soloing and since no one is really in a position to solo then a draw seems like a fine result to me
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: As to me.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: Is there a reason Aus hasn't finalized? I assume he knows what he's building
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: More time for diplomacy. I very rarely finalize. 36 hour games are a bit fast for me, anyway.
17 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: That's fine. Sometimes people just waste time because they don't know they can finalize.
18 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1907: My vote's in. Austria and Russia can take the draw whenever they like. I'm neither for or against Italy and Turkey surviving.
21 Jul 11 UTC Autumn, 1908: I think we should just draw.
24 Jul 11 UTC Spring, 1909: My draw vote is in. This game is just making me pissed at you all's stupidity, and I don't feel like putting up with it anymore.
24 Jul 11 UTC Spring, 1909: There's one way to play diplomacy, and this is it:

Try to win.
If winning is impossible, draw with as few players as possible.
If you can't draw, survive.
If you can't survive, screw whoever killed you.
24 Jul 11 UTC I do love it when one person assumes his or her idea is universal. I believe my plan has worked out.
24 Jul 11 UTC it could become a 4 way with tur, eng, aus, and france but withoutt russia as he's about to lose mos and sev if he doesn't vote draw.
24 Jul 11 UTC "to everyone: If we kill It and Tur and have a 4 way draw, we each get 175 points more or less. If we just draw now, we get about 120 points and everyone participates. I'm not interested in wipingg out two players who have foughtt the whole game and not NMRd jsut to get an extra 50 points. Let's just draw and move on."
24 Jul 11 UTC i believe that was my quote. Why ae you repeating it?
24 Jul 11 UTC Because it's the exact attitude that has me pissed off.
24 Jul 11 UTC Well, I guess that's the problem you have with the game. you think it's alright to kill off players for 25 points and I don't. For 1000 points, i would probably have done it. But the irritation factor is so worth the points. Of course, if you want to eliminate Russia, I'm up for that.
24 Jul 11 UTC Nice game everyone. I have much enjoyed playing the game, even with smileyfaceguy. Tire? Are you the replacement or the player?
24 Jul 11 UTC I don't play for points. I play to get the best possible result out of every game.
24 Jul 11 UTC Which *no one* got this game.
24 Jul 11 UTC Well, I guess Turkey got it.
24 Jul 11 UTC I guess you lose most games then. Too bad. I win most of them. Hard being a half-empty kind of guy.
24 Jul 11 UTC nice gmae everyone, especiallly you Turkey, for surviving.
