18 Feb 21 UTC Autumn, 1905: damn it i was really hoping that convoy of alb was going to succeed! think turkey forgot to put in the order
18 Feb 21 UTC Autumn, 1905: That's rich from Germany. OK here's basically my endgame statement - you are not required to agree, nor do I care.

The R/T functioned well until Russia steamed into Germany with little resistance. At that point I reached out to the West and it seemed like E/G would form to help slow down my ally. That certainly didn't last long. My lone missive to Italy went unresponded to - not that I lay any blame on him.

Since the rapid growth of R left me out of position I had a few options. Move against him or play the servile ally and hope R was the type of player who valued game long alliances. Don't laugh those players are out there and I have stabbed allies because I knew the best thing for them to stab me...only to really find out they were cool with a draw and I should have just held on.

So I viewed it as very little chance to turn on Russia (out of place, Germany suiciding against France, Italy silent) to little chance of hold on and pray R would go for the draw.
18 Feb 21 UTC Autumn, 1905: fwiw, i wasn't always planning to stab. Was just seeing how things played out

23 Feb 21 UTC @England, why did you support Russia into Belgium?

24 Feb 21 UTC here's my end of game statement:

Immediately hit it off well with turkey. They seemed enthusiastic about a Jugg, and willing to trust each other in the opening rounds which makes for a great ally and well functioning alliance. Austria was more quiet, so i was strongly leaning towards turkey.

Germany mentioned he might appreciate me putting some pressure on england. That made me excited about a northern opening and, with german blessing, its potential to open up a northern game for russia. That's important for a jugg, and i think russia has to do well in north and south to win.

Germany and turkey both proved reasonable, trustworthy, honest allies and i enjoyed working with both. By autumn 1903, however, I knew I'd have to stab one or the other in 1904 to continue growing. Germany seemed to have left Kiel and Berlin super-vulnerable, so i thought the chance was too good to miss. I felt pretty bad about the stab, but it worked out pretty well.

Italy had been tempting me to stab turkey down south. Italy seemed smart and competent; i was tempted. However, I worried that Italy would have sided with Turkey after I stabbed turkey. (Interested in whether this is true?) I was bigger than Turkey and so siding with them would have made sense; and I got the sense Italy was a strategic enough player to follow that logic. Another reason i didn't stab turkey was that the alliance was just going well. We trusted each other and i thought turkey seemed like the kinda person who'd stick with me until the end. I was a bit bigger than them and they didn't seem to be complaining too much which was a good sign. Perhaps by sticking with Turkey i'd be able to grow even bigger without the alliance falling apart.

In any case, I stabbed Germany and stuck with turkey. That meant also attacking italy, although i mostly focussed on the north. I did actually make some sacrifices to speed up Turkish progress against italy, e.g. using Budapest to help Turkey into Serbia and Trieste in 1903 and 1904, rather than just taking vienna for myself. The reason was that I was worried they'd stab if we got too imbalanced, and wanted to demonstrate some sort of commitment to equal growth and putting the alliance first.

Things up north went a bit pair shaped. Germany and England teamed up and were overpowering me in Scandinavia. I didn't think i could win if i list scandinavia. My rough plan was to stick with turkey until i got on top of the situation. Luckily, germany offered me help in return for survival (after he'd lost his home SCs) and when England realised they became more intent on knocking out Germany than on pushing me back.

It's easy to criticise Germany for that, but it did allow them to survive in the end. (They will technically survive the game, and they agreed for me to take Belgium this turn.)

I took a long time deciding whether to stab in Autumn 05. I figured that if i could sneak into bulg, i'd ultimately have mainland turkey. The gamble paid off.

One interesting feature of the last year is that England and Italy helped me with the solo. If Italy, Turkey, France and England had all coordinated to stop me, would I have won? I think so. Ultimately, I'd have taken Turkey and the Balkans I think. Italy and Turkey didn't have enough armies between them to stop that. I'd have lost Belgium but kept scandinavia (possibly England could have taken Norway from me). It would have taken another year or so, but I think I'd have won.

I enjoyed how chatty people were, and how open everyone was to some interesting deals. Thanks all!
24 Feb 21 UTC I couldn't survive :(
24 Feb 21 UTC Good game Russia. And I would have sided with you still but you played this game well, good win
