30 Nov 20 UTC Good game; I just couldn't gain any traction. France, I am sorry as I feel I held you back. Thanks for the support through all of those years.
30 Nov 20 UTC GG!

@pyxxy why did you abandon the south with your Winter 1901 builds? By not building in Sev, you all but guaranteed the loss of Rum. I suppose I can’t question the strategy too much, as it worked out for you in the end lol.
30 Nov 20 UTC I didn't take notes so I'm recreating my thought process but I'm not sure it was the right decision. Here's what I've got.

1. Germany bounced me in Sweden even though I opened north aka I was anti-England + pro-Germany, yet still bounced. This means that they will probably build a fleet, possibly two. So if I want to keep Norway, I need at least one northern build.

2. England had no builds and no friends. F StP sc shows that I'm anti-Germany which tells England to go fight France while I handle Germany.

But you're not really questioning the fleet, you're asking about the army. I think my plan (which you can kinda see) was to launch an early attack on Germany. With your fleet in AEG already, you were no threat to me *and* you had stalemated A/I to an extent. So I didn't think the south would resolve for a while, giving me time to take out Germany.

Losing Rumania was acceptable because I planned to replace that build with Sweden. And by letting Austria take RUM and threaten SEV so easily, and with Italy unable to get any gains from you (Turkey), I was also hoping to incentivize Italy to stab Austria. Unfortunately, my southern defensive collapse accelerated Austria right past the stabbing sweet spot, and foiled the plan of stalling the south.

Also, if I build A SEV, my defensive plan still kinda sucks. Austria supports themselves into GAL in the spring and then into RUM in the fall no matter what I do.

But I will say, this is all misguided if I view this from Seren's (jasnah) opinion of Russia which is to transform fleets into armies whenever possible. If I build A SEV, even though I will lose RUM, I get the chance to disband that fleet and rebuild it as an army (likely in MOS) thanks to picking up Sweden. Then my southern defense is armies in WAR, MOS, and SEV, giving myself a triple support into UKR and likely delaying the south for a lot longer since Austria has to loop around to SIL to dismantle it.

So...yeah I think it was maybe a mistake to build A MOS? But it also probably means that I get pushed back in a few years by the German, if I'm not harassing them in SIL, and without NWY/SWE my chance at surviving gets a lot smaller. Idk Russia is always on the verge of collapse in gunboat :P
30 Nov 20 UTC This is also a longwinded way of saying...yes I abandoned you to the Austrian wolves, and my builds signaled as such, and basically you had to pray that Italy would stab Austria, and then my defensive collapse let Austria get the jump on Italy too so that didn't happen, and from there...there wasn't much you could do.

So you deserve compliments! Your BUL to SMY convoy in A05 was an excellent defensive play. Retaking BUL in A07 was also clever.
30 Nov 20 UTC GG. Not gonna lie, I kind of lost interest in this game since around 1903 when I figured I had no chance of soloing and I'm sure it showed. Just pushing units back and forth, did almost nothing the whole game..sorry if this was annoying to many people. Most boring west of all time, it was kind of hilarious actually, none of EFG ever conquered a single home centre of the other all game and just sat until the east arrived..

It wasn't as far gone as I thought because then somehow Austria nearly collapsed and let Russia back into game at full force, so I was concerned about Russian solo for a few turns when it appeared that Austria didn't care to fight Russia even as he was running into Rum, Boh, Gal..I couldn't understand why Austria didn't take Rum in A14, I thought he was throwing to Russia out of spite or something.

Germany, no problem, thanks for the support. Sorry I couldn't keep you alive there at the end.
30 Nov 20 UTC By the way, if my hand had been forced, and Austria and Russia had continued their westward push to race to 18, I would always have defended against Austria, and tried to get a 3wd in Iberia and Mars, of course, any other course of action would have been suicide.
30 Nov 20 UTC "I would always have defended against Austria"
I was wondering about this. I figured out who you were about mid-way through the game, and confirmed it when you weren't interested in whittling England, or rather you were more concerned about my solo if we finished off England...which was precisely why I was trying to get you to finish off England.

I looked at the solo opportunity many times and realistically I needed to hold onto RUM while also taking the rest of England, BRE + BEL + HOL, and one of PAR/POR/SPA/MAR...which is why I had my draw vote up for a few years. Just didn't see a path where I beat Austria, especially if France (you) got pissed at me for trying the solo and gave it to Austria.

I also agree that I don't understand Austria's reluctance to repel my advances, unless they just wanted to delay things in order to finish off England. Then it kinda makes sense. They had the strongest chance at a solo, which is why I moved on RUM in the first place, once GAL was empty in S13, and why I focused on taking Munich from them in 1914, because MUN + WAR + MOS + rest of Turkey + holding onto TUN was 18 centers.
30 Nov 20 UTC What gave me away? I’ve always been so laughably wrong the few times I tried to guess identities, I had no clue who anyone was here.
30 Nov 20 UTC I couldn’t send enough units up to go kill England without exposing Iberia, which no way I would do
30 Nov 20 UTC Re: 1914 - I was trying to keep the we-could-both-win alliance with Russia going (or should I say get it going again, after my naughty Munich excursion). I was confident this couldn't lead to a Russian solo - after Spring 1915, I hold a stalemate line against Russia, and there's no way they can hold RUM while fighting France.

Yeah, I was aware that France would very like hole up in Iberia. On the other hand, I had a head start in the race, and more ability to threaten Russian centres. So I was up for the race, until Russia looked liked they could take BLA and pose a real solo threat.
30 Nov 20 UTC No offence, from Austrian moves I was thinking to myself that I wouldnt be surprised if he was too stupid to hold his position, so I went with just a few units north, never so many that I couldn’t fall back to Iberia in one turn.
30 Nov 20 UTC If that was the intention, nicely done.
30 Nov 20 UTC Ha, no offense taken. This game was a weird one for me, and there were some points where I explicitly wanted to cause some confusion (mostly in Russia - I was hoping they'd think I'd take a big risk of them soloing). So I'm not upset that you read me as stupid :-)

It helped a lot that I read *you* as an extremely solid player who definitely wouldn't do anything stupid (and indeed, suspected you were you). I knew I could rely on you to go fully after Russia if needed - and obviously I'd have sent my fleets further away if things had got tense.
30 Nov 20 UTC Speaking of the Western confusion... I'm not sure I've ever seen England reach the draw without a successful convoy before :-)
01 Dec 20 UTC Wow gg all! I am extremely surprised that I managed to sneak my way into the draw given that I never had a solid foothold on the mainland and I never had any allies!

To be honest this game was pretty boring for me since I felt like there was nothing I could do after my convoy got blocked and I couldn't find an ally who would support/ally me to convoy.

There was a brief moment in time in 1908 hen things got a little more interesting when I claimed Belgium but it was clear I wasn't going to be able to hold it given that France and Germany were working together and I didn't hold the English Channel at that point in time.

I was just waiting to be finished off but it never came. A boring game for me but I'll happily take the draw!
