13 May 18 UTC Spring, 1901: Moderator: (ghug): Welcome to the 2018 Gunboat Tournament!

You've been placed into seven games. If you're not in seven games, you haven't received each power exactly once, or you feel you've been put in the tournament in error, please contact me as soon as possible.

Games have been paused to ensure that nobody misses a phase due to the abnormal nature of the game starts. If you have not voted unpause by Wednesday, May 15th, I will contact you and begin docking from your seven days of allocated pause time in one day increments. If you need a pause, please let me know.

Good luck!
17 May 18 UTC Spring, 1901: Moderator: (ghug): Unpausing because the last voter seems to be around. Let me know if you need a pause.
21 Jun 18 UTC Autumn, 1910: Moderator: (ghug): A player has been replaced in this game. Due to the undefined end date of the pause, I'm going to let you all unpause yourselves. If this doesn't happen within a few days, please let me know.
01 Jul 18 UTC Autumn, 1910: Moderator: (ghug): Unpaused.
14 Jul 18 UTC Autumn, 1912: Moderator: (ghug): Game paused by request.
24 Jul 18 UTC Autumn, 1912: Moderator: (ghug): Unpaused
06 Sep 18 UTC Thanks, good game. I'm pretty surprised to have won that one.
06 Sep 18 UTC Not in terms of the end-game, but in terms of how badly I was going in the Med at one point, and how many enemies I had mid-game.
06 Sep 18 UTC Austria, did you really think taking me out while preventing a French solo were both achievable?
06 Sep 18 UTC I’ll be upset if that extremely poor judgement keeps me from the finals. This was the first game I didn’t draw.
06 Sep 18 UTC Interesting game --

Austria, I'm sure you were frustrated by my fluctuations. I was REALLY frustrated that you kept attacking Germany and not France. I felt like you opened up the board for France in a way that was fraught with danger.

I perhaps could have been more docile, but I wanted you to back off Germany, and I was willing to bear the brunt of attacks from you to achieve that goal.
20 Sep 18 UTC Apologies for not responding earlier, life got in the way. One of the weirdest games I’ve ever been part of and not one to be proud of when it comes to my play.

To your question, y2kjbk, yes, I thought that for a few game years that reducing the draw was possible, after the situation in the Med appeared to turn in Turkey’s favor. That was a clear misjudgment on my part and in gunboat it’s hard to course correct once the damage is done. I’m certain I could have done more and played better, but to base your qualification for the next round on one play or game seems a bit excessive, and feels too personal to me (though I appreciate that in yesterday’s Forum post you kept it anonymous, I just hope you don’t carry some kind of grudge toward me, because I’m actually a pretty nice and easy-going guy :).

Balki, I had a hard time to interpret what you were doing. We were working well together against France and I felt that as soon as I moved, you stabbed me, but then you didn’t proceed. In the same vein, I was slow in understanding and responding.

To end on another note, I don’t think I’ve ever played a game going toward 1927...
20 Sep 18 UTC It's no worries. The real aspect of anonymity that actually mattered in me hiding, that I will drop a bit more of a hint here now, is that I will be joining you in the finals, asuming you qualify. I accept your explanation of misjudging this game and do not mean to demean your ability in general, I have not looked at your past games in any detail to render any credible judgment on that.
20 Sep 18 UTC Thank you, I appreciate that. I’m sure the irony has not escaped you that it might be me, who may not qualify for the finals because of this game’s result... But if I do, see you there.
20 Sep 18 UTC Well, if it is of any interest, I would probably have played as Austria did. To me, it was a big (happy) surprise when Turkey attacked Austria. I felt that really opened the game up for me and gave me a chance to win. I wasn't thinking anything particularly positive when Austria was attacking Germany.
20 Sep 18 UTC If I were Austria I would have preempted Turkey and turned on him in 1912 while I let Germany slam France, but I’m biased lol
24 Sep 18 UTC Wish me bad luck dipperjay, you might need this inconsistent player with a couple NMR’s to stop me. He could.
28 Sep 18 UTC ugh dipperjay, we both may come out of this tourney round wishing we had 105 points each from Tantrum
28 Sep 18 UTC balki might wish he had that 105 as well
28 Sep 18 UTC OMG it's Cool Runnings and you tripped us near the finish line!
28 Sep 18 UTC So close and yet so far away. I'm out of all tourneys, FvA, GvI, gunboat. Time to take a trip to the moon!
