13 May 18 UTC Spring, 1901: Moderator: (ghug): Welcome to the 2018 Gunboat Tournament!

You've been placed into seven games. If you're not in seven games, you haven't received each power exactly once, or you feel you've been put in the tournament in error, please contact me as soon as possible.

Games have been paused to ensure that nobody misses a phase due to the abnormal nature of the game starts. If you have not voted unpause by Wednesday, May 15th, I will contact you and begin docking from your seven days of allocated pause time in one day increments. If you need a pause, please let me know.

Good luck!

03 Aug 18 UTC Cheeky taking Liverpool back ;-)
03 Aug 18 UTC I was really surprised by england moving wales to Eng Channel in fall 03. After a standard start, and England seemingly engaged with Germany it was unusually aggressive to occupy the channel after I had vacated it the move before. I was hoping for an england France alliance but that killed it stone dead
03 Aug 18 UTC Unfortunately germany and Russia were no help against England as they fought each other so it was very slow going. A little quicker and I might have thought of going all the way from a decent position but in the end it was all about setting the stalemate line (sorry Italy for taking you out at the end)
03 Aug 18 UTC No worries, after the 2F build in 1901 from Turkey and Austria getting wiped out quickly it was bound to happen at some stage.

Cheeky misorder from you (France) to let me hang on for another year though ;).

Well played the three of you!
03 Aug 18 UTC I went after Russia in 02 and England went after me. I tried everything I could think of to communicate to Russia I wanted only peace through 04 but he kept helping England. In 05 I went for revenge on Russia but England was open. Instead of working with me in F05 France took me entirely out. If only France had held Belgium and taken my support to Holland the game might have been different.
03 Aug 18 UTC Good game all. Well played to Italy for stalling me for so long and to France for completely preventing any advance past the Italian peninsula. Apologies to Russia for the betrayal. I was tempted by the possibility of a quick push north before England/France could fully put aside their differences.
03 Aug 18 UTC Liverpool being pink just makes the map aesthetically more appealing ;-)
03 Aug 18 UTC After Russia stabbed me I was a bit worried to be the one who gets eliminated from the 3-way draw. I guess Russia's strategy was to let me die fighting both France and Russia. So my response strategy was to take Russia down with me, basically doing the same to Russia with Turkey. And it worked. Thanks to Turkey for stabbing my stabber and to France to realize the Turkish solo threat right in time.
03 Aug 18 UTC @France. I like to share my two cents because you were "really surprised" about my "unusually aggressive" channel occupation. :-) If my presence in the channel was aggressive so was yours the year before. I had to build in Liverpool instead of London to be able to defend England. Just moving that fleet to London makes it a useless unit for a year. You already cost me something.
Also, you built in Brest instead of Marseille in 1901 and even if I moved to London you probably would have built in Brest again because Marseille was occupied, threating me again...
Moving into the channel in 1901 showed how low you value the standard channel dmz. Still you weren't OK with an English fleet in it. As you see in 1903/1904 it did not attack you but supported you, basically calling for peace several seasons in a row. My Holland army only cut your support from Belgium to prevent you from replacing my lovely fleet with yours again. That's clearly defensive on my side. Also, my attention was on Germany until I no longer could ignore you. I could have taken Belgium in 1903! You did nothing to de-escalate the situation...
Pro Tipp: if you want to work with England don't go to the channel in the first place ;-) But I enjoyed our cooperation at the end of the game!
03 Aug 18 UTC I hear you. But every single time. Without fail I don’t go to eng channel thenengland does. Same with burgundy and especially Black Sea. I think his might have been one of the later games I started in the tournament and had already seen Venice move to Trieste and Munich to burgundy. So I was probably being extra cautious here. I’ll look back at post 1903 maybe I kissed some signals. Although I think once I backed off Italy I was committed to heading north. The joys of gunboat
