15 Dec 17 UTC Spring, 2000: GameMaster: FatherGoose8 was banned: multi/meta. The time until the next phase has been extended by one phase length to give an opportunity to replace the player.
Remember to finalize your orders if you don't want to wait, so the game isn't held up unnecessarily!
19 Feb 18 UTC [USA]:Nicely played all - some high rollers in this one. Glad we eventually came to a peace Luke M - it just took a while and little PacRussian invasion to bond us. Also well done Tugster in hammering out some progress towards Kenya. Some quality play in this one, although that PacRussian collapse was a bit stunning.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Ghana]:hey look, everyone below 1500 points got killed.... there's a reason we have points... lol
19 Feb 18 UTC [USA]:There is some luck involved too, but skill doesn't hurt
19 Feb 18 UTC [Ghana]:not a lot of luck really in most of these style games. Predictive guessing, it isn't the same thing as luck. Kenya and I were doing it punch counter punch all game. What would I do if I were he? hmmm... It may seem like luck to the noobs, but it really isn't. "Lucky Guesses" are actually "Good Predictions"

Although the thing I like most about this map are the wildly asymmetrical nature of the starting positions. They are not balanced, but there are balances in the imbalances, if that makes any sense.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Western-Canada]:I loved the three way fight for N. America right from the start of the game. Every time someone got on top the other two seemed to team up against them. I had to let Quebec take Northwest Territories to even give myself a chance of getting into his homeland.

U.S.A., I tried to give you Alaska, and when I had an army in Ontario, I supported one of your units into the Mid-West. You declined both offers. Don't you like neat, historical borders? Good teamwork though.

Mali and Near East had it tough. Both of your home centers were under attack right into the late game. I was rooting for both of you.

If Kenya had stabbed Australia or vice versa, then I totally could have stabbed both U.S.A. and Mali. I was waiting for it, but it didn't happen. :(

Final team scores:
Northern Hemisphere - 41 centers
Southern Hemisphere - 40 centers
Near East (was he on our side at the end?) - 5 centers

This was a fun game. Thanks everyone.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Pacific-Russia]:Good game
19 Feb 18 UTC [Libya]:Everyone who helped kill me survived.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Oz]:Yes great game everyone. Glad I could work with you Kenya, although missing that one turn did hurt you.
19 Feb 18 UTC [USA]:I agree that good predictions do look like luck. It's simple enough to reason, what would I do in that position, and then think of the best counter. Then you start thinking, how will he counter knowing my likely move, and how do I best counter that. Then it gets to be a matter of luck finding the right level of counter moves and not overthinking it, especially with opponents that try not to be too predictable.

WC: Alaska was indefensible for me. So at the time, I was hesitant to take it despite your clear offer, as I felt it was too susceptible to you grabbing it back whenever you wanted it. And it is an important leaping-off point for all sorts of moves in the north towards Asia that I thought you might pursue, so I thought it best if you just had it than me create tension there. As for Midwest, that would look nice, but I care more about meaningful tactics than a pretty map, and I didn't have the spare units.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Russia]:My lone Russian army stayed alive for quite a long time.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Ghana]:You can also adapt to the individual skill level of a gunboat player by looking at his history to assist in predictive moves. As a game goes on, you can learn their style, do they prefer to defend with supports or cuts or complex counter attacks?
Sometimes you can even figure out who they are, as people have distinctive styles of play, even signature moves.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Russia]:That’s why if you are playing gunboat you should include an element of randomness to your orders. If either a support hold or a complex attack could work, flip a coin.
19 Feb 18 UTC [Kenya]:Good game, all! This was a fun one, with an unusual set of stable alliances. I don't think I've ever seen a gunboat with North America peacefully divided. Good working with you, Australia, and yeah, that one missed set of moves did really hurt. Nice back-and-forth dueling with you, Ghana. And, Western Canada, it's funny, because I probably would've stabbed Australia as soon as you stabbed Ghana and USA. But, I was never going to take on Australia without confidence that Ghana would be off my back.
