27 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Good luck!
27 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 1901: You too, groza.
29 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Drat. I needed to leave Rumania for another year. I think you've probably got me.
29 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Yeah, I was surprised to see you go for Smyrna insread of heading north. I've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory more than once, so you never know
29 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 1905: Yeah, I'm a little new at this 1v1 thing-- still trying to figure out the right balance. Still wondering if I was too conservative in retreating to Tunis instead of NAf also.
30 Aug 17 UTC Autumn, 1905: We're about even on being new. I've played GvsI twice on Vdip and these are my first 1vs1s here.
30 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 1906: I played a few 1v1s on vdip but mostly against personal friends new to the game, so they were a little one-sided.

I must say, trying to outguess is one of the most stressful parts of the game. Interesting though. Care to do a post-mortem once we finish up here?
30 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 1906: The most stressful and the best part...when you guess right. Yeah I can post-mortem.
30 Aug 17 UTC Spring, 1906: Damn, you got me.
31 Aug 17 UTC I actually knew I had you when I saw that I guessed right on Tyrrhenian last fall. It was close though. You could have had me.
31 Aug 17 UTC I was praying for an error. Good game.
31 Aug 17 UTC Good game. I'll report out tomorrow, but you might kick yourself to find out how easily you could've had me.
31 Aug 17 UTC EoG: My initial plans were to get to scatter my armies as quickly as possible while still attempting to build a wall near Germany. In 1902 I felt like I couldn't afford to build the third fleet yet because I needed more units on the wall.

In 1904 I decided to head for Turkey, which may have been a mistake-- I didn't have much in the north and French armies were all over the wall. I was concerned about a convoy into Livonia in the fall, which is why I kept 3 on Munich even though there were 4 coming at it. Lucky for me the convoy didn't happen and the fleet moved to Bothnia. As I think I mentioned, I considered retreating to Western Med. In hindsight it *might* have delayed the move to North Sea but I would probably have lost Tunis and Italy would be under threat.

It was obvious by this point I wouldn't break back into Germany. To be honest I should have been done for right here so I was basically just trying to delay it as much as possible. I probably second-guessed myself on EVERY front this season. This was where you could have had me; not just a bad guess but an objective error: If you had moved to Finland instead of StP this spring, my army would've been stuck on the wrong side of the line and my chances of victory would be toast (barring a big mistake). When I saw that I had a retreat to Finland I knew I could take StP back, but only temporarily until you managed to get a fourth unit out there. *Had* to keep you out of Prussia, and of course Warsaw, and *had* to hold Tunis. That was my only chance. Supporting Tyrrhenian just felt right, but I knew the game was riding on it. I took a potshot at Marseilles just in case.

When I saw that I guessed right on Tyrrhenian I let out a huge sigh of relief. My Tunis defense was guaranteed to hold for a year and that was all I needed. You probably could have made it harder on me by moving east out of Germany while my armies were away from the front but I don't think you could have stopped it at that point.

Good game. I should have lost. Would play again.
