War In Our Time?

The world gave a sigh of relief last year, after the Sino-American War ended with an armistice agreement. In their fit of hubris, the two superpowers of China and America lost millions of their soldiers and laid waste to much of the earth, including the Middle East, where only two major powers escaped complete devastation. Europe has faired better, but the economic instability brought on by the war has created a wave of unprecedented scarcity and violence. Nationalist governments were elected from Spain to Poland, all of them eager to avenge past slights and regain their "rightful lands".

French irredentists are setting their sights on Belgium and Monaco, while their Russian contemporaries argue passionately for a restoration of the Eastern Bloc. Smaller, poorer countries like Denmark and Romania have become targets for annexation by the great powers of Europe and the Middle East.

Under such conditions, I must ask.... Have we ended one Great War only to begin another?
08 May 17 UTC Spring, 1994: Well said
