07 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1906: we dont want italy to miss a dl, i vote pause
07 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1906: If he's not back in time for the orders then he won't be back in time for pause vote either. We'll just have to tap a mod if it comes to that.
07 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1906: ah, it takes everyone to vote pause?
07 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1906: we have to assume he's back on time then, as he wrote above
07 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1906: We could all order holds
07 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1906: He'll be here, he just likes to make a dramatic enterance.
07 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1906: Sorry all for the unavailability these past few hours, especially in such an important phase. Normally would try and get around it but such an important emergency that really needs dealing with. I should be around to talk again late tonight (in about 6 hours). I realize that's past the phase deadline, so i'm putting in the minimum defensive orders (holds, certain bounces, support holds). I know this sucks and I'm really sorry for it. I would have taken my pause but if this game doesn't end soon i'll need to use my one pause for work. Again, my greatest apologies, and I should be back properly a few hours after this phase to be able to deal with things. Sorry everybody.
12 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1907: voting pause France? Want a pause or a left over?
12 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1907: That is a leftover! Apologies.
13 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: My draw vote is not a leftover
14 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Only me and turkey has orders in. I suspect a conspiracy.
14 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: I think that's a poor inference - I used to intentionally put in orders early to throw that theory off too. Now I'm just too lazy to put in orders until the last minute. It's so little effort yet still...
14 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: wow we gained (or lost) 2 hours
14 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Seems like we have no choice but to draw at this point
15 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: I mean, maybe we could knock Germany out but at this point why bother
16 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: I am traveling for work tomorrow, so if I don't respond to messages for several hours, that's why, but I definitely should not miss the turn or even most of the phase.
16 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1908: So France tells me you have agreed to eliminate me. I would like to congratulate Russia to his solo win. Well executed.
16 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1908: Sorry dude I need the 4 way draw for my team
26 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1909: we went to daylight saving time where I live. So now I'm another hour ahead of you. Good night.
26 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1909: Wow gg all thank you for teaching me.
26 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1909: Good game Germany.
27 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1909: 2/4
27 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1909: 2/4?
27 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1910: hi all, a brief EoG even though the game isnt over.

I early understood there was a RF in the making, that succesfully used E as its little helper. Unfortunately my tries to get France to side with me didnt work out, and I was amazed how much the meta meta infulenced the game when I was told people weren't allowed to ally with me because their team thought I had to be attacked.

When England was about to go down and finally wanted to work with me I thought my only chance of splitting RF was to make a strong case for R to work with me. I made a last effort to do Frtance so much damage that I was hoping R would find it worth allying with me, but nope, he's aim was set for the RFI draw. I was actually for once a bit personally hit by this. I have played a very long time and I ususally have a beer afterwards celebrating nice stabs (even if I were the victim) but this time I actually was personally sad. I thought I had done so much to help Russia and that we were having nice talks and I felt actually let down. Either I am getting too old or Russia is just really good at making people feel they are his friends :)

Anyway, when Russia didnt take my offer to work with me rather than France it felt like I was going down, sooner or later. When Italy stabbed Russia I again thought I had a small window of opportunity but then France showed he wasnt going to let me use that window. So all I had to do was trying to survive on some important center. Obviously Italy and Russia were more friendlt than they let on and now I got eliminated.

What amazes me most is how this game will end in the FRI that was probably agreed on in 1901 or so. It is really not a very good pick to have Germany in a game where the best meta strategy is for 3 powers to agree early for a draw and work towards that goal. I've won the WDC playing as Germany, but then it was an altogether other game: everyone only played to top the board and the game ended in 1908. That gives a totally other setting than this kind of long game where a draw is good enough to aim for. II'm not blaming my failure on being Germany, but it had been interesting to play this as a series where we anonymously played different powers in several games.

Good luck to you all!

27 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1910: Thanks for your account. I have a slightly different take, but I will wait for the end of the game. GG.
27 Mar 17 UTC Spring, 1910: Good game! You made one mistake though: *FRIT draw
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: I agree with Germany- pretty lame game all around. No one even pretended like maybe they hoped to solo once
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: There were a few attempts, they just didn't work out. I was pretty lame I suppose.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: gg
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: I think in a non-world cup game things would have been different. GG nonetheless, and genuinely sorry turkey.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: How would they have been different?
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: A bigger draw in this hurts your team's chances of winning/their placing in a way that matters a lot more than in a one off game. I also think the team aspect encourages people to be risk averse. Especially since we are the game furthest along.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: There's only one winner of the tournament, and now your teams can get targeted in the meta. All of the incentives are there to try to solo
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: well i'm vixol from team sweden and the other 6 teams together cant beat us!
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: No, I'm vixol. Stop stealing my identity.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: I can't do it for much longer though!
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: And yes, it's boring when 3 powers decide to just go for the draw. When two are R and F its pretty easy to bring along.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: If I were Russia I wouldn't settle for the draw now though.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: If you were russia you would want france to solo? that's interesting.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: no, au contraire, I would builf F Stp(nc) and put preassure on France.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: Russia should be able to get at least Munich and Britain. Rememeber there is 1 point per sc too.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: There's no way russia can getbritain. They go for munich France will solo.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: We will see. Niether you nor Russia has set draw. We will see if the draw votes come up quickly one Turkey is reported as defeated by the interface.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: Personally I wouldn't risk France pulling their draw vote. I would rush them in now before it's too late
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: It's sorely tempting
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: There is a whole bunch of press that I can't look at right now because I'm traveling for work but will respond to all this fun global chat soon I hope.
30 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: I told you! Now France pulled his draw vote! Sad!
31 Mar 17 UTC Autumn, 1910: haha, this is gonna get fun to watch
02 Apr 17 UTC Congrats to me fellow winners and great game all.
02 Apr 17 UTC Congrats! GG!
