09 Jan 17 UTC Good game.
09 Jan 17 UTC I felt a little like Neville chamberlin there.
09 Jan 17 UTC If you had kept up the attack against me in 1913, Austria, I definitely couldn't have been able to create that Rome -> Tyrrhenian corridor to funnel units out. And less definitely, I'm not sure I could have kept the Turk from taking Apulia. And even though I could tell that you were increasingly frustrated with Turkey, he couldn't have taken you out if you occupied such a vital spot.
09 Jan 17 UTC Though honestly, I'm not sure why you chose to hate Turkey more than me. We could have crippled Turkey in 1906, and likely gotten back west in time to deal with Germany, but I chose not to because I didn't want to face you next. I feel like I was definitely a greater asshole than Turkey in this game.
09 Jan 17 UTC Good game England, sorry for the stab after so many turns of working together. I saw a Britain without any armies on it and it looked like a shot at a solo.
09 Jan 17 UTC very frustrating. My reward for helping to stop germany's solo was turkey's eating me alive. When I had the opportunity to sway it to Italy (at my final moves) I was happy to do so. I felt that Turkey did not see the big picture while Italy did and was happy that Italy won. Note: Italy was first (down south) to recognize german threat.
09 Jan 17 UTC congrats to England. I don't know how you managed to hold on so long! Very spirited game all around!
09 Jan 17 UTC I think I'm just as responsible for your death as Turkey. I could have helped you, but I chose not to. I pulled back 3 units in Spring 1906, and two of those units went straight to Venice / Ionian and wasted 4 turns. In those 4 turns they could've killed Turkey. That was intentional.

That said, your moves were really good. If England hadn't ordered that hilarious North Sea -> Denmark in Autumn 1912, things might have gone differently for you. But for the entire game I wanted to see you crippled, and I did my best to make that happen.
09 Jan 17 UTC Autumn 1911 *, my mistake. Heh, that move completely caught me by surprise when I saw it happen.
09 Jan 17 UTC Crippled, why? A strong turkey is worse for you...potentially fatal.
09 Jan 17 UTC Let's say Turkey doesn't believe Germany is a credible solo threat and decides to get some nearby SCs. What does he do? He goes after Serbia and Greece and then... stares at the Ionian because he only has two fleets. There might be a time window where I only have a single fleet in the Ionian and no support, but every time I get a build I'm putting up another fleet, so he has to attack me after Germany's been weakened but before I get the chance to use one of those SCs to put down a fleet.
And even when he does breach the Ionian, like in Autumn 1913, I still have more time to react.

Let's say, on the other hand, that Austria suddenly stops believing Germany is a credible threat. What does he do? He moves to Venice and/or tyrolia, and I have no armies to defend myself with since I'm fighting a sea war in the Atlantic. And once I lose my first line of defense, it's a supply center, not just the Ionian. And even if I do get a build after that, despite having lost a supply center, my builds all the way in southern Italy don't actually defend Venice; I have to spend turns moving them north.

If we had taken Bulgaria and Smyrna before heading north, I don't think I would've managed that 1912 attack. I would've kept France, but I would've lost Venice and Rome, and with that I would've lost the ability to build more units.
09 Jan 17 UTC I'd sure love to hear turkey's views
09 Jan 17 UTC Part of the problem here was Russia quitting with four centers left. That freed up a couple of powers to concentrate their forces. Good game all it was pretty well played. I would have killed me too italy :-)
