09 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: I think he is Shawn's friend. I hope he didn't leave due to an unhappy experience with Diplomacy. I know there can be a sting when people stab and break their word, but I hope he didn't take anything personally.
09 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: I don't know Spain. Germany and Poland are the two I brought.
09 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: Ah, then he's Gougy's bud.
09 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: So what happens if he doesn't enter any moves?
09 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: If you miss one turn, nothing. Once you miss the second, you go into civil disorder. When that happens, it will show that he has left the game. All of his units will HOLD as their move, and units that are displaced are simply destroyed (as opposed to retreating).
09 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: So, basically, a free-for-all for his direct neighbors. Kind of sucks for everyone else, though.
But the sooner his SCs are taken, the sooner we won't have to wait 48 hours for every phase (necessarily).
09 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: If this were a seven-man map, I'd vote for a Cancel, because I agree: non-active players directly benefit neighbors. But honestly, even if he were here for this turn, he can do nothing to stop his fall: England and I have soundly eviscerated him.
10 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: Not my buddy. Zachary West. Jeff's buddy.
10 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: That sounds like an incomplete haiku.
10 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: I've never met him, so he must be someone's friend in here, yes?
10 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1995: Ah, he's Will's friend.
10 Jun 15 UTC Spring, 1996: Yes. He was in the middle of a move and his ability to connect online wasn't what he thought it was going to be. I'll check in and see what's up.
18 Jun 15 UTC Spring, 1997: Anyone know what's going on with Italy?
18 Jun 15 UTC Spring, 1997: Sorry guys. Life got super busy the last few days.
21 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1997: For the record, this has basically just been revenge for World War II up to this point.
26 Jun 15 UTC Spring, 1999: Does anyone else love that it looks like I splatted the Algerian army like a bug by ramming it from both sides with tanks?
26 Jun 15 UTC Spring, 1999: I'm sure Italy doesn't love it.
26 Jun 15 UTC Spring, 1999: Nah, it's cool. Italy is (my) chum.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: I go on vacation tomorrow and will likely be away from all electronic devices, so I may end missing a turn. Apologies in advance in case I cause a delay for the rest of you.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: How quickly would we have to act to give you time to put in an autumn set of moves before you leave? If I'm to take SCs from you, I'd rather just take the ones I can get against an opponent. Maybe we could set a worldwide DMZ on your Remaining SCs until 2003? Would that cover the duration of your vacation?
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: I leave tomorrow morning. You (Egypt) won't be taking SCs from me this turn. Since we seem to use the full 48 hours every phase, I will likely miss two turns: I'm back Sunday night.

It would be appreciated if a worldwide DMZ on French territories is implemented until I return. I mean, I've lost: no one survives four-on-one on a Modern Diplomacy map, but I would like to control who gets what remains of my SCs based on the depth and breadth of mendacity each elected to utilize.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: I'm saying that if you readied up your fall moves before you left, we could let the timer run down through the retreats and builds, and you won't have been absent for an autumn move. Thus, we won't have to feel guilty taking SCs from someone who is AFK. Can we time this out somehow?
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: So long as we can all ready up on spring before you have to leave (looking at you, turkey), you can save your moves, and just not ready up. That gives us plenty of time, right?
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Turkey has something going on in her personal life that is serious, so let's give her all the time she needs to make her moves.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Shit. I forgot about the spring retreat phase. If it's resolved by everyone but you before you leave, you could "set the timer" by starting the new phase and submitting your autumn moves without readying. That 48 hours plus two more full timer run-downs through the retreats and builds by us would mean you don't miss a thing. IF we can submit and retreat quickly enough, that is.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Oh, shit, sorry. Didn't see your post as I was typing mine. Didn't mean to put on any pressure.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: It's all good. If folks can agree to DMZ France and her territories, that would be great. In return, I'll endeavor to enter a move by phone if I have reception: I'll be out in Sedona and then in the Coconino National Forest up near Flagstaff, so I don't know whether I'll have reception.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: But man oh man, it would be way better if we didn't have to DMZ you at all, because WE'RE HUNGRY! (And you're kind of Big to be Switzerland for even just one turn)
I'm just saying IF we all happen to be ready in time before you leave, it's better for everyone. If it doesn't work out, no big deal. Life is life.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Honestly I am not a fan of DMZ France as you're my only target for the next few turns. I'd rather vote for a pause in that case and pick it back up when you return.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Just make your moves then and do what you will.
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Is a pause not agreeable to everyone?
08 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: At this point, just forget the pause. Make your moves, I'll do my best to make mine, and the game won't suffer any delays.
09 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Now, France, you shouldn't ready up until the other guys get their retreat orders in. That way, right before you leave or whatever, you can put in you Autumn orders and scoot. Should time out just fine, yeah? (Assuming the two remaining countries can put in their retreats before ou have to go)

P.S. What was that part about me not getting any SCs this turn? :-P
09 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Guess you're just too good for me, Egypt.
09 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Awwww, don't be like that, France. Look, I'll tell you my secret: two beats one. Once you get the hang of that, you can try the REALLY advanced stuff (like "three beats two!"), but maybe we should work in baby steps.
How late do you think you'll be able to put in your autumn moves, assuming Ukraine can get his retreats in tonight?
09 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2001: Had I known the game required me to count to three, I never would have started playing. Back to chess for me.
12 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: Anyone know if Ukraine is coming back?
14 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: How many supply centers are needed to win on this map?
14 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: 33. Have you guys heard of this 'google' thing? You ask your computer questions and it answers them.
16 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: Dammit Italy...
16 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: I'm assuming he's left. If we play again, let's look for folks who can make timely moves, or, and this would be my preference, let's move phases back to a standard 24 hour period.
16 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: Agree on the 24 hours.
16 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: I third that - 24 hours seems like a good phase time.
16 Jul 15 UTC Autumn, 2001: Yeah, 24 hours would be good with me.
17 Jul 15 UTC Spring, 2002: Yeah, waiting two days for a retreat or a build or something is a little excessive. 24 hours all the way.
02 Aug 15 UTC Spring, 2004: You all suck...lol
10 Aug 15 UTC Spring, 2005: Turkey is gone. Russia just has one SC left. Can we vote for a draw or must we continue this slog?
10 Aug 15 UTC It will all be over soon.
10 Aug 15 UTC Geeez, why don't you just stroke his hair and tell him to hushhhhhhh, hushhhhhhh?
10 Aug 15 UTC Can you guys imagine if this is what the world actually looked like today?

Good game, all.
