03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 1: Hi everyone. I'm New to WebDiplomacy, and Diplomacy in General. I think I understnad the mechanics of the game, and I hope I don't have too many problems with the interface.
Can someone explain the betting system? We've all bet 25 on this game, and the pot will be divided by supply center at the end. (Which is when someone takes over how many supply centers?) but if I lose my first couple games, and run out of chips (or whatever it is we're betting) do I need to make a new account? Do I get 25 for free each week? I like the aspect of betting, to bring incentive, but can someone run out of cash?
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 1: Hey man! If your coin total goes below 100 (let's say you only have 20 left), WebDiplomacy will give you your coins back to make up your starting 100. You will never run out of coins :) good luck! This should be fun!
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 1: I'm new to the game, and didn't know this map even existed in diplomacy, but my first thought is to ally with Egypt, using the Red Sea and Sinai as a DMZ.
Using a public message board is also a neat concept, as these musings can't be private.
I expect Rome and Greece will have a lot of initial quarreling, while Carthafe moves West. You'll need to go through him to unite Africa. He may be busy fighting Rome to get France.
Very excited to try out WebDiplomacy. Let's all have some fun!
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 1: Oh, that's awesome! That keeps players from have that awful feeling of being flat out broke (like me after 30 min in Vegas, lol)
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 1: At the voting board, the check mark shows that we're online?
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 1: Wait, no. That would be Rome, not you, Egypt. I guess it means that Rome sent out his orders
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 1: I know right? Haha! And yes; a grey check means that you saved and haven't ready up, a green check shows that you have ready up!
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: Thanks for helping me learn the mechanics of the website. I was online last night at 10:00pm, I'm surprised I couldn't see your message,
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: Very important that Persia attacks Egypt so him and Carthage can be friends......huge strategical advantage for persia that way....trust me
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: this is so uncomfortable
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: Well, I was originally thinking Egypt and I would stay on our own continents so Egypt could focus on fighting Carthage. (It looks like Egypt v Carthage is inevitable)
Egypt is advancing on both fronts, so I guess we know Egypt's views on that.

Greece, I understand why you feel uncomfortable. You're pretty much smack-dab in the middle of things. Egypt is advancing on me, so I'd be happy to keep myself occupied elsewhere. With your cooperation, it wouldn't be difficult for me To go around you to mutual enemies.
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: I'm just moving to get three supply centers. I have no plans for attacking anyone yet.
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: yet is a nice word

I wonder why he wants to get 3 sc's......hmmmmm
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: The same reason everyone else wants supply centers ;)
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: Egypt, you have three supply centers. I'm confused.

New units can only be placed in original supply center territories, right? So if you owned Petra, and kept it unoccupied, you would keep the territory, but couldn't place new units there, correct? Understanding this mechanic will be essential for borde negotiations
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: yes that is correct for this map
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: And Egypt, I do not want 3 sc's to attack people with...I use them only to defend myself from greedy egyptians. The Pharoah wants to rule the world.
03 Mar 15 UTC Autumn, 1: Now, Persia, you will see that I am building in a manner that tells Rome, I want to be friends and I am a peace loving african.
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 2: So Carthage, you're expansions demonstrate how to get three sc's soldiers Rome doesn't feel intimidated. I'm not sure if it worked, since he built a new fleet on his West Coast (but I also don't know how limited his building options are)

So as a new player, I'd like you're advice on how to expand near Greece in a way that lets him know that I don't care to expand into Him, but would rather take Rome by land while he takes it by sea.
Not yet, though, as I clearly screwed up my own expansion (fleets can't claim territory?)

All I can tell so far, is that greedy Pharaohs want to take everything, and it wouldn't be too hard to stop them with a little cooperation
03 Mar 15 UTC Spring, 2: Your assessment of Rome is right...if Rome builds boats they are going after cathage if they build armies then greece

greece has built to go at you as well. Based on year one and the build, while you told him what you wanted to do, he has said, no and that he is teaming with rome.....best we can do is get the pharoah to team with us....I go west, you east and him north

fleets can take territories, as long as they are bordered by water
