24 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Good luck everyone!! May be the best diplomat be victorious.
24 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Alright, Embree here playing England. I intend to conduct and honest and direct foreign policy, relying on the global channel here to establish credibility. So, first off I claim Belgium as a soverign territory of the british crown. Any foreign powers who move military forces to belgium will be considered enemies of england, and met with a total state of war that will continue until the game's end.
24 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Go ahead; make my day.
24 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Is Embree some minister? I only conduct with ambassadors of sufficient birth
24 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: I am Vladimir Lenin and I approve that message.
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: As the spokesperson for the dual Monarchy of Austria Hungary and its great Emperor Franz Josef, it is my pleasure to cordially greet the most powerful nations this continent, and indeed the world, has ever seen.

We do not intend to make any brash proclamations here, but rather to encourage others to view Austria-Hungary as an honest, peace-seeking power, loyal without fault to our friends, and as fierce as lions to our enemies.

It is my sincere hope that those among you who wish us goodwill make yourselves known, and together we will reshape Europe into a paragon of Imperial efficiency.
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: - Count Alois Lexa von Aehrenthal
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Greetings people of Europe,

In the beginning, our continent was shrouded in darkness and barbarism. Then, across the Dardanelles arose light: the beacon of civilization, of justness, of virtue that was Troy. Yet the glory and wonder of Troy were an affront to the bloodthirsty Greeks, whose greed sought Trojan youth and whose savageness lusted for the flesh of Trojan youths. The Greeks used trickery to destroy Troy, and so Troy was no more.

Yet the survivors of Troy fled across the Ionian Sea to Italy, where they founded the greatest city that ever was and the greatest city that ever will be: Rome.

Romeo grew, Rome conquered, and Rome ruled justly. Rome revelled in its glory and in its civic virtues. Such was Rome.

Then came the Dark Ages and more barbarism. From that point up until now, nothing of consequence happened in Europe except for the Renaissance (which was soaked in glory, enlightenment, splendour, etc).

Now I, the Duke of Parma, as Foreign Minister of Italy, entreat the peoples of Europe to once again side with civilization against barbarism, of justness against trickery. Together, we can revel in the perpetual glory of His Grace, the King of Italy.

- Duke Matteo, The Most Noble Duke of Parma, Foreign Minister of Italy
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Rome*, not Romeo. I did not intend to write "Romeo grew". :(
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Philistines,
While there is surely no greater nation than France, I greatly look forward to continued diplomatic relations with the lesser nations of the continent. King Edward: Keep Belgium, we French care not for their bastardized language and lurid culture.
Yours in arrogance,
Emile Loubet

25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Some lies in the headlines there Austria.
That;s what you get when you allow that whole freedom of the press thing.

25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: As England is a free and open democracy, here are some other cornerstones of English foreign policy. The North Atlantic, Irish, Norwegian, and North Seas are English territory, as is Norway. Incursions into these territories will be met with war, just like an incursion into Belgium. Any move into the English Channel would also be an act of war, but England is of course aware of the Channel's importance for M. Loubet in Paris and seeks no provocation.
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: Is M. Loubet one of those pesky wine merchants in Portsmouth?
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: The Austro-Hungarian Empire would like to recognize the independence of the brave Icelandic people. Their liberty will soon be at hand.
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: His Grace The King of Italy wishes to know whether countries intend to repudiate the Treaty of London or whether they will be held to their honour?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_London_(1839)

In other news, the His Grace has decided in all of his benevolence to extend voting rights to Sicilians! Now Sicilians, provided they are baptized Catholics with large landed estates or holding vast sums of lira, can exercise their right to vote for our mostly powerless and largely consultative national Parliament in Rome.

- The Most Noble Duke Matteo of Parma, Foreign Minister of Italy
25 Nov 13 UTC Spring, 1901: A trick question! The treaty is not binding international law as it was made without Italian consent.
26 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Greetings,

I'd like to share today's front page of Le Monde, which I read this morning in sunny Constantinople whilst I was sipping on Turkish coffee:

Paris - The French Parliament, in a breathtaking last minute vote, have elected to send a fleet into the English Channel. President Loubet, in a harried midnight press conference announced “The people of France cannot be allies with England. Their insistence on declaring the people of Belgium for England while the Belgian people have cried out for French assistance is indicative of English intransigence. Their refusal to engage diplomatically with the French government was an insult by which we cannot stand.” Loubet, visibly saddened by his necessary actions, noted through gentle tears “I only wish this was a kinder world”
Nouvelles en bref:
The french army in Iberia has been met with the full force of Spanish law after refusing to pay their 36 million Franc bill at a brothel
Italian Ambassador known by the name “Bello Bambino” has been pardoned by the French Government for his recent round of indecent exposure.

Your continental shenanigans never cease to amuse me!
26 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: The Chancellor would like to formally welcome the Dutch people into the German confederation. Their protestant work ethic, and Germanic common sense more than makes up for their peculiar love of tulips. A few years of rule from Berlin will have them contribute to proper industry once more.
26 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: The people of Galicia are happy to be united with their brethren in Warsaw and Ukraine. Under the banner of the Tsar, all three territories will enjoy fruitful years to come.
26 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Civilized nations of Europe,

You should all be sorely aggrieved at the shocking violations of sovereignty and international law undertaken by the Russian Empire and Kingdom of Italy. Franz Josef still holds hope for peace, but our armies are now mobilized and poised to strike back if those forces that have invaded our territory to not withdraw.

The fate of European Imperialism lies in the soil of Austria Hungary, and we should all be concerned for its fate.

- Count Alois Lexa von Aehrenthal
26 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: In other news, an adorable animal has washed up to shore along our portion of the Adriatic. Where could its mother be?? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sea_Lion_Pup.jpg
27 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: England declares war on France.
27 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Good luck with that.
27 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: The republic of France is desperately sorry that Europe has come to this.
27 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Austria-Hungary declares war on unecessary statements.
27 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: It is with much commiseration that the Holy See sends word that His Holiness The Pope has died of venereal diseases. His mistresses, catamites, and illegitimate children weep in the streets of Rome.

The Conclave of Cardinals has elected the Bishop of Turin, a notable Franciscan, as the new Pope, who has taken the Papal name Sixtus.

His Holiness Pope Sixtus VI calls for peace in Europe and hopes that all countries can heed the extreme pacifist message of Jesus Christ, a Palestinian Jew who His Holiness believes is simultaneously the distinct and separate "God the Son" and - contradictorily - also *is* one and the same as "God the Father" and "God the Holy Spirit". His Holiness contends that the fact that this theological statement is logically impossible is evidence of God, since God does not need to abide by the laws of reason and logic.

- Cardinal Marco Primavera, Secretary of State for the Holy See
28 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: England declares war on Germany, but will also pursue a diplomatic resolution to the North Sea Crisis.
28 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Austria-Hungary declares war on Greece.
28 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Germany recognizes Greece as legally owned and occupied by Austria-Hungary. We are thus confused how you might declare war against it.
28 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Specifically we are declaring war on the state of Crete, the so-called 'Greek government in exile'.
28 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: On behalf of His Grace The King of Italy, I wish to announce to the civilized peoples of Europe the annexation of Tunisia. Henceforth, all of the nice things that have any historical value in Tunisia shall be shipped to Rome, to adorn our national museums and galleries in place of the all the nice things that the British and French stole from us before Italian unification.

As well, His Grace The King of Italy has arranged for safe passage for all members of the House of Hapsburgs from Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna to Austro-Hungarian-held Budapest.

- Duke Matteo of Parma, Foreign Minister of Italy
28 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: Hapsburg*
29 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: The Russian Empire announces the annexation of Sweden and the immediate replace of its Prime Minister, Fredrik von Otter, and congratulates Governor-General Nikolay Bobrikov, whose brave stewardship will now include both Finland and Sweden.

From this day forward, the following terms Shall Apply:

1. The Swedish Army, should one exist, for we confess we have not found one yet, shall immediately be conscripted into the Imperial Army.

2. Russia is now the official language of administration in Sweden. Only Russian currency and stamps may be accepted in Sweden.

3. The church of state is now the Orthodox Russian Church.

4. The press of Sweden shall be free to publish all such materials as deemed by the Governor-General to be true to the reality of life in Russia, the peaceful relations of the Russian Empire with its neighbours, and the joy with which all Russian citizens take in their life.

The Tsar foresees many of years of peace and happiness in Sweden.
29 Nov 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: The French army finds the people of Portugal to be listless and rude in polite company. While they will be under French rule for decades to come, we are not necessarily pleased they are part of our cultural fabric.
04 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: England declares war on Russia.
04 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: Austria-Hungary declares war on the Kingdom of Italy.

In related news, the liberation of Vienna is met by joyous crowds lining the streets, praising Franz Josef and his far-sighted generals.

Austria-Hungary recognizes the independence of Greece.
04 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: I suppose Nikolay Bobrikov is now the Governor-General of Norway, in addition to Sweden and Finland. The Tsar commends him for his dedication and excellent multi-tasking.
10 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1903: Austria-Hungary declares war on Turkey.

13 Dec 13 UTC Spring, 1904: (did not mean to send twice) the internet in the empire must be sub-par
18 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1904: France bitterly regrets the end of the English empire. Like Icarus, they flew too close to the sun.
17 Jan 14 UTC Shall we end the nuclear winter?
