14 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 1: Alright everyone! Welcome to diplomacy! This is a game of...you guessed it...diplomacy. You have each been given a Civilization. Your goal is to dominate the known world here by taken the most Supply Centers (SC). SCs are the black circles in the different territories. You can move into territories without SCs but they do not get you any bonuses, but the will be needed for strategic movement. For every SC you have you will have an equal amount of military units. The units consist of either an army or a fleet. Armies cannot move in to open water, while the fleets cannot move into dry land. However, both units can move onto a coastal territory. Both units are equal in power. So to overpower another unit, you must use the support of either your military units or an allies'. Mess around with the orders menu just below the map. The options of orders will change each turn depending on the layout of the map. The game consists of 5 different turns. First is the "Spring Diplomacy", which allows you to send private messages to each individual player, so that you can work out a battle strategy, treaty, coalition, alliance, etc. You also place your orders. In the orders menu, each one of your units are displayed. First, you decide what you want them to do: hold (wont move), move (move to an adjacent territory), support (give support to another unit moving into an adjacent space of the unit giving support) (armys cannot support a full sea attack, only a coastal and land attatck), and convoy (fleets can convoy a army to another land territoy, there can be a chain of fleets convoying one army). After you pick what to do you will pick where to go, who to support, etc. You objective is to take the territories you want, even if it means dislodging an opposing unit. You cannot dislodge your own unit. Sometimes you might want to retreat from a territory to have a better defensible position. After the orders are given and the pieces moved, we move into "Spring Retreats". This is only a phase for those who have lost in battle and must retreat their armies. Next, is "Fall Diplomacy" followed by "Fall Retreats" which act the same as their Spring counterparts. Last is "Builds", which only follows the Fall, and this is your chance to build more units, granted you have achieved more SCs, if you have more units then SCs you must destroy a unit. These are the basic rules and functions of the game. You will learn a lot more about the game as we play. In order to win you must form alliances, out maneuver your opponent, back stab your friends, and dominate the world. Good luck everyone! If you have any questions, please post them on this feed so that players with the same questions can have them answered, unless of course, the question itself would give away your plans. Then feel free to contact me privately. |
14 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 1: To try to make it fair, I will not reach out in diplomacy with others. If you want to engage me with some political talk, I will listen and possibly give my support on your future actions. |
14 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 1: You can save your moves in case you might want to change your orders before the phase is over. If everyone ready's up, the phase will move on to the next one. |

14 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 1: What automated messages? |
14 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 1: Oh, the first message was so detailed I thought it was automated! You rock Kansas. |
15 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 1: For anyone else getting antsy to move on to the next turn, Tyler is on his way to complete his turn. |
