What's unfair about NOT replaying the game, is that South Africa- v Senegal game had a replay. if a clearly incorrect decision that causes a goal means we need a replay... then FIFA needs to be consistent.

Yeah, USA have been shit and i almost hope Panama wins the replay just to insure we have a wake up call... but FIFA needs to be consistent.

Fairly sure the SA - Senegal game was replayed because there were suspicions of outright match fixing by the referee, as opposed to an honest mistake.

The Netherlands missed out because they fucked their Euro 2016 qualification up so terribly (expanded tournament and they still failed to qualify) and as a result their seeding tanked and they were put in a group with France and Sweden that meant even 2nd was a tough ask, especially for a team that had played so badly last time around.

Wales failing to make it despite making the Euro semi finals was more of a surprise - Bale just didn't provide as many moments of genius for them this time. Italy are probably the biggest name in the European playoffs, but given they were drawn in a group with Spain, it was always a given that one big team would be in the playoffs there.

To be fair to Bale, it's rather tricky to provide moments of genius when you're not on the pitch. He missed a few games in the qualifiers, including the crucial Ireland game. Without Bale Wales and Ireland are pretty evenly matched, and that Ireland edged it is no great shock.

A shame the Scots didn't squeeze over the line. Still, Hopefully the Irelands will be able to join England for the big show.
