Is the voter fraud investigation a distraction?
Is it Republican Data mining? Beating a dead horse? Or all of the above. It feels like its designed to help Republicans gain shitloads of unsolicited free information about voters. Why else would they need such data? Why not trust the states - many of which are Red states to uphold fair elections.

Diplomacy Strategy: Sphere Theory
First and foremost, this "theory" is based on articles written by other members of the Diplomacy community. This thread is simply an elaboration of those ideas.

This "theory" attempts to craft a general strategy for the game that can be used as a guideline for players.

Status, wealth, racism, and maybe some socialism.
So at the moment US republicans are trying to make sure access to healthcare is dependent on wealth. But discrimination based on status goes a long way back...

New player - submitting support orders
Hi. Could someone please explain the syntax for submitting a support order? It shows up as: Army at X support move to Y from Z.
So, X is the supporting army. But is Y the Army that is being supported or the territory that they are attacking?
Thanks!

Have you ever been to Hell?
Some people have near death experiences and claim they see white light and hear heavenly music. Some have even claimed to have been to heaven and come back. But has anyone ever been to Hell? Like they go into a coma or have a near death moment and learn theyre going to hell?

GB 3 Game Tournament
Being in the middle of a pretty long, drawn-out game, I feel the need to flex some tactical muscle. I'd like to propose a 3 game, semi-anon, 24 hour phase, WTA series. Preference is for a high reliability (<80%) and moderate to high GR. 25 to 50 point buy-in. Once we get the 7, games will be created and PW messaged out.

1) Hamilton Brian RR 98%, general GR position of 177

Magic Money Trees
The UK's totally bankrupt Prime Minister, Theresa May, told nurses they couldn't have a pay rise because "there isn't a magic money tree".

But this week there was £1.5 billion of magic money to give to some extreme-right Northern Irish homophobes with strong connections to terrorism.

Unhelpful Allies
Quick question, does anyone get annoyed by allies who send you messages saying really obvious things about what other countries did last turn or where you could easily get a SC. Basically all the information that is super clear that everyone could figure out but they decide to tell you anyways. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Hamilton Brian (757 D(B))
25 Jun 17 UTC
At least they're talking to you. It's something to build on.
TheBritishGent (185 D)
25 Jun 17 UTC
Sometimes I will point out an open SC because I want my ally to go there, or will point out something obvious because it ties into a strategy.

In terms of unhelpful allies, I have two in one game who said they would do certain actions, then never submitted orders. They just dropped out of the game. I believe the second one was still ingame, but they sent a confirmation three hours before the end of the turn but still didn't submit orders. like what the hell were you doing?
Nevertheless it resulted in me getting destroyed pretty quickly.

When I think of unhelpful allies, I think of players who are so bad at guessing what moves they should make that they're start dying even though I am helping them.
For example, England allies me and I am Germany and somehow France is in English Channel, Belgium, and Irish Sea.

I usually betray this type of ally.

You would be surprised at how many higher level games people get into and forget this simple fact. As a neighbour, it really sucks. How can you plan and move ahead when you have a ventriloquist dummy with no ventriloquist sitting next to you.

That's a pretty bad metaphor.

It is part of the deception. They write novels planning out your most obvious moves...to distract you from the things you should be finding out from them.

I've found that having an idiot as a neighboring ally is a great boost to my own solo chances. I'd rather have an incompetent ad an ally then a crafty bugger. The game is on my terms then.
Note to idiots: I make a great ally, team up with me and we will steamroll them!
eturnage (500 D(B))
26 Jun 17 UTC
Sometimes what seems obvious to a good player, isn't obvious to a new player. Therefore, I usually apologize for writing to an ally about something obvious in the same message. I don't want to offend people like you who become irritated because they assume I think they're not good enough to see the obvious move. Does it help reduce the annoyance when the person apologizes for pointing out something obvious? The reason I do this is because I have discovered that not everyone opens up the orders. The orders sometimes contain a lot of interesting information about moves that you don't necessarily see in the map graphic.

Good point eturnage. Being nice to a newbie can be rewarding.

I generally go off the assumption that everyone involved in the game has some capability for strategy. It's a basic instinct we all have, to plan and make decisions, even though they may not always be the best decision. It is also something that has to be built off of experience more then straight teaching, since strategy (while there are several helpful books out there to read) isn't an exact science like chemistry.

I will make suggestions to help out an ally or influence them, but contrary to @ishirkmywork I prefer a competent ally. I have had allies that are either incompetent (not only do they make bad decisions, but they ignore my suggestions and comms) or disrespectful, and I have no time for either.
TheBritishGent (185 D)

@MajorMitchell I also feel the same way, especially with unreliables.

Is there a way to run a game from one computer? In a face to face game, players would submit their orders to the moderator who logs them into the program for resolution, afterwards updating the public board. Does anyone know how to make this work?
