So for me it was about 15 years ago. I was living in Thailand at the time and I met another westerner. I spoke to him as I would any other foreigner meeting another foreigner in another country. However, this discussion soon moved to areas that I wasn’t particularly aware that there should be an issue about (and it was raised by my erstwhile companion). Being an Australian I naively, and quite happily, spoke to this fellow about healthcare for all as well as access to welfare for everyone who needed it. Needless to say this character soon began discussing an entirely different narrative to the one that I had grown up with, and that nearly all the people that I know subscribed to (the exception being an uncle who was a hold-over, and ex-SAS, of the British empire)

My question to the forum is: at what point did it occur to you that there was a different way of viewing the world, and what was the circumstances that bought it about?
