Jesus christ NOT NUMBER 9 THEORY. It's like some kid who first discovered modular arithmetic got into a stash of cocaine.
The ONLY example of number mysticism that i regard as curious is the fact that in quantum mechanics, trying variational approach on energy states in hydrogen atoms, you get the Wallis formula for pi.
of course once again, the SYSTEM discovered this, but the values' representation is intriguing. I have no problem using a 10 digit number system because i have for every year of my life, but the idea that the system itself has some mystical properties is just people finding the ways it interconnects.
the fibonacci sequence in nature? it's exponential growth... you know that right? it builds upon itself? Why wouldn't that be prevalent in nature?
All in all, this can be boiled down to 2 things in my mind:
1. Math is a system used to discern values in the natural world, as well as hypothetic ones (but by applying real-world measurements).
2. Math is the world. Everything is, everything exists. We EXPLAIN math. math is numbers, numbers do amazing things in the world, connecting the quantum realm to circles. We can explain that.
if you subscribe to 2, then what is the difference between math, and science?
the answer i think, is that math IS science, but using symbols to represent space, and quantity. yes we study Math itself, that's called pure math. studying rationalism (using the presumption that all empiricism is simply unproven rationalism) might be considered philosophy.
does that mean rationalism exists without humans? i say no. does that mean that the things we're trying to rationalize exist without humans? yes! or maybe. we're still working on it ;)
