Every F$&@ing Game Ruined!!!!
Every f$@&ing game ruined by NMR/CD's ... and then the D Bags who get the advantage won't cancel the game! Pathetic guys! You know who you are, and you're freakin' pathetic point grubbing thieves! You can't play win a straight up fight, so you resort to playing when you've got an unfair advantage.

Can we PLEASE create an "auto-cancle" feature so this stops happening?

Magic the gathering encourages children to practice Necromancy
Studies have shown that children who play Black decks tend to perform human sacrifice on animals. One child saw the art on the card goblin ski patrol and he began killing squirrels.

Supermoon Kills Science
So tonight there is going to be a "supermoon", which to those of you who don't know is what we in astrophysicist circles refer to as a "moon". It will not look any different to any other full moon you may have seen...

Extra Terrestial Influence
So I think most of the world is in agreement that the universe is so big that life almost definitely exists on other planets. That question is kind of boring though. The real question is, have aliens had contact with earth in the present or past.
The results are in, and the evidence points to a resounding yes!

Cheating
Why is there such an epidemic of cheating? I've had several games be paused and irreparably damaged by cheating investigations. Can anyone explain why people are so invested in winning that they won't abide by the rules?

Maniac 2020
Recent appointments to high office have created controversy among progressive, intelligent people. I'm talking about two things, of course. First of all, the election of Donald Trumpf as Leader Of The Free World (TM). Secondly, and no less controversially, the selection of a new Moderator who was not Maniac.

A Divide
I've seen horrible reactions these past 24 hours. Some celebrate that they have a champion, thinking he will bring this country to its greatest times. Others panic, fearing the same man will erode their rights and encourage persecution which will endanger their lives. Those whose views don't fall into that binary shirk away, fearing their voice is no longer welcome. This thread is about the lofty goal of uniting a further dividing nation.

Refugees and Asylum seekers
So i had a thought, under international law, those seeking asylum are entitled to protection if they have reason to fear for their life. Thus pretty much anyone fleeing the Syrian war should probably automatically be granted asylum.

What about LGBT folk from the US, fearing political repression and violence in the streets. Should we (europeans) open our borders?
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))

Have you opened your borders for Russian and Mid-West LGBT people that suffer real risk of persecution?
orathaic (1009 D(B))

I don't know, should we?

And Poland seems to take in Russian refugees (more than they have Syrian ines) but the limited info i've seen suggests they are most Chechnyan's seeking political asylumn.

And at least at an EU level, this is a thing:

'Malin Björk MEP, Vice-President of the Intergroup on LGBTI Rights, reacted: “I am very glad the Parliament has agreed that everyone fleeing a situation of persecution and oppression based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, has the right to asylum in the EU.”'

I can understand people thinking Trump is racist and sexist. I'm still a little confused why people think he's homophobic.
Or do they just like throwing all the bad buzzwords.

Trump is the most socially liberal Republican candidate since... since... well, ever.

The hysteria over the apparent belief that he's going to start throwing social undesirables into FEMA camps all of a sudden is laughable, and shows just how easily manipulated some people are.

Seriously, can anyone watch this and say with a straight face that Donald Trump is going to make oppression of LGBTQIJKLMNOP folks a top priority?

He did say he'd do all that he could to protect lgbtq people, and that he was very happy the Republicans cheered for him when he said it.

"“right to seek and be granted asylum in a foreign territory, in accordance with the legislation of the state and international conventions.” American Convention on Human Rights, art. 22(7); African [Banjul] Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, art. 12(3)."

this is all i can find, what are you all referring to as "international law"???

b/c by this definition they can seek asylum but i don't see a DEMAND that countries take them in. i might be wrong but i don't know where to look

"The adjudication of asylum claims is reserved to individual States. Although some States, namely those that comprise the Council of Europe, have made an effort to adopt a uniform asylum system, international and regional bodies lack the jurisdiction to adjudicate individual asylum claims. See Dublin Regulation; Council Directive 2004/83/EC of 29 April 2004 on minimum standards for the qualification and status of third country nationals or stateless persons as refugees or as persons who otherwise need international protection and the content of the protection granted (commonly known as the Qualification Directive)."

I think the answer on the Russia and ME LGBT folks is probably yes, but they're small in number. I'm not sure about EU law, but in the US it is reasonable fear from persectuion. I don't think fleeing a generally catastrophic war qualifies, but it's been a while since I've done any asylum work.

Trump supports the First Amendment Defense Act.
He opposes the protective laws Obama instated as well as the Equality Act.
His VP supports conversion therapy and he's likely to appoint other cabinet members and supreme court judges that fit with Republicans' regressive views on gay rights.

I don't know where the LGBT community stands on the list of people who will be most affected by Trump but it would be naive to think that his victory (especially coupled with the Republican House/Senate) won't affect them negatively.

As much as I hate Mike Pence, he isn't dumb. He is looking to reestablish his political career. Last time he tried a stupid social law, it moved him from a Republican frontrunner for POTUS in the future to a laughingstock on the backburner (and a terrible governor). I don't think he is going to do that again.
ND (879 D)
11 Nov 16 UTC
Yeah the United States is a sovereign state. We don't have to open anything to asylum seekers. The highest law in our land is the Constitution and not 'international law'.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
11 Nov 16 UTC
We aren't subject to international law we didn't sign, ND. We are bound by it.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

If we signed it, we are bound by it. ^

He's made it as the VP and has old social conservative republicans still control the senate and house. There's going to be a lot of support for his regressive thinking. He's a man that refused to say that he believes in evolution. Although things are often blown out of proportion, there's a lot of legitimate worry that this government is going to be very, very regressive.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

@" I'm still a little confused why people think he's homophobic."

I didn't mention Trump, i am refering to the 'supporters' of his who have been verbally and physically abusive in public since he won.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
11 Nov 16 UTC
And ND as for international law, i'm pretty sure the US wrote most of it.

Even the bits about war crimes that you didn't sign up to, so American troops/leaders can't be held to the same standard as anyone else (who did sign).
orathaic (1009 D(B))
11 Nov 16 UTC
And, looking it up, the US is not a party to this... but that's largely irrelevant, as i'm discussing the EU and should we allow US LGBT citizens fleeing to Europe. (though they'd probably go to Canada first... it is a question of principle)

Yeah we would never sign up to a international law like that.
