WebDiplomacy policy on restarting a game
I'm sure this type of topic has happened before. One of the players in "Friendly Mediterranean Variation" managed to 'ready' without any units being ordered. All units were held. Major screw up. Hurts the balance of the game. We are still kind of discussing the ramifications and what to do about the moves... but is it possible to either fix the moves for him? or restart the game with everyone playing the same countries?

Most Well Known Current Leaders?
I was wondering what the most well known current leaders of the world are and realized that I actually didn't know very many. So my question for you guys is how many current world leaders do you know and which ones are they? Also, what country are you from?

Worst Mistakes in Diplomacy
I'm curious to know what people consider their worst mistakes in their entire Diplomacy career. Is it failing in a guaranteed solo? Messing up a secure draw? Being eliminated when you shouldn't have?
I was looking through my games, and noticed this one: gameID=174907
As Germany, I had led the board in SC counts for most of the game. However, my solo bid eventually became unattainable. Instead, Austria was setting up to make a solo attempt. England, Italy and I spent four long years fighting a desperate battle to keep Austria down, away from 18. Austria broke through Italy, and his fleets made it to Tunis. England and I resolved our disputes after fighting the entire game to race to Tunis before Austria could lock down the Italian boot and the Med.
Austria was also making a push to come across the Berlin stalemate line to get the last centres he needed. He and I traded Berlin and Munich several times over the last few years, each trying to lock down the line. Finally, after years of teetering on the brink of losing to Austria, England and I finally managed to lock down our stalemate line in Germany and Tunis. Austria would have to end at 17 centres, and we would three-way draw.....
Only that's not what happened. Yes, the Western line was locked down in the spring of the final year. We were only waiting for the fall moves in order to kill off Italy before drawing. However, in the fall I made the ill-conceived move to free up Kiel for a build, convincing myself that a build might be useful if Austria dragged this on, and deciding that Austria surely wouldn't try for a centre that he had no chance of getting. Well, he did. Austria took Kiel in the fall, and solo'ed. It was that one little stupid move that costed England and I a hard-fought 3WD.

Probably biggest regret in missed potential is drawing when I was 12 Russia to 9T, 3I, 5F, 5E, where I just got E and F to stab each other and T was still loyal to me. I probably would have solo'd (in a major F2F tournament). But my stomach tricked my brain and I decided it was best to just take the board top with all my relationships intact. I've been meaning to go back and analyze whether I could have solo'd (I took pictures of the board every turn) for almost a year now but my subconscious is too scared to confirm what I already know....

In terms of bad decisions rather than lack of good ones, same tournament but different round, I tapped an ally's unit in Denmark as England just to make sure he wasn't gonna stab me by supporting/moving to North Sea. Turns out he moves it to HEL so I accidently stab him for 1 (WHILE ALSO SUPPORTING HIM INTO CENTERS ELSEWHERE AND NOT STABBING HIM IN ANY OTHER WAY). He doesn't believe my reasoning and goes full tilt on me and we go from like 8/8 EG versus a 4sc F to 0/0 EG and F ended with like 15

If you're in USA/NE you should always go to Carnage!

Excuse me for the digression, but just how often do you play hundred year games?!?
Well I checked for my own interest and it's the second-longest WebDip game ever if anyone is curious.

The other one doesn't really count. They ended at a normal time and held for a hundred years. gameID=166960 should be passing both soon, but doesn't really count either. The World Cup game is probably going to hold the real record for a long time.

I had a really embarrassing live game once where in trying to solo I (G) allowed a small power across the board (T) who "just wanted to help" me to gain ground. He eventually pushed me back across the big stalemate line, where I and my early game ally (F) whom I had failed to kill moved to stop his solo. Then I started having internet issues and lost the game in a rushed misorder. I try not to think about it too much.

Biggest mistake recently was in ODC finals.
gameID=174505 Fall 1907 Turkey

I had set up to take out Russia with Austrian help. I got freaked out by a simple query from Austria and switched the play to take out Austria instead.

I only changed half the orders and managed to stab them both.

Game over.

Diplomacy walk-on music
It's the year 2030. Diplomacy has finally taken its rightful place as one of the "big four" global sports, along with soccer, twenty20 cricket, and ultimate frisbee. The first million dollar tournament opens with hordes of screaming fans straining to glimpse you as you stroll to the game board, your walk-on music reverberating through the arena...

What is that music?

As of yesterday I have joined DiplomacyWeb. Also started a game right off, but I haven't got a clue how the digital side of playing is run.
Can anyone inform me (in the FAQ there wasn't any discription as to e.g. who is alotted to which country, where is the TAB to decide whether contestants can or can't mail to each other, etc) ?

Wanted: Thoughtful Discussion
I'm working on a project where I have to document the process of having a discussion with someone whose views I disagree with. The point of the assignment is to examine my own biases, and find ways to address them. So, since I consider myself liberal in most social and economic policy, I'm looking for an open-minded conservative to debate and discuss politics with. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. Thanks.

Gun control
Webdip has changed so much, back in the day after a mass shooting we'd have a thread within a minute, argue for days and then nothing would get done. Now we just leap straight to doing nothing. I miss the old times.
