NEW ENGLAND PLAYER WANTED FOR WWI TEAM GAME!
England has gone into civil disorder so we need a new English player. This is a team game where the allies (Britain, France and Russia) fight the axis (Germany, Austria and Turkey).. England has missed a couple of phases but is still in a good position. The game ID is 179879. It is called "World War One team game". The password for the game is "shellshock". Once you have joined have a look at the other thread on the forum called "WWI team game" to get familiar with the rules.

Also, if you're American, did you vote in the recent USFA election? Do you think it'll have any affect on the tournament selection process in the New Jersey division?

Well, to predict ten thousand years into the future and hence use it as a guide to how to think today is also a fool's errand.

"Whoa whoa whoa, it's the opposite dude. It's 100% grounded in actual reality by its very definition."

Being--that something exists--does not "by its very definition" answer any questions about what exists.

"If you're afraid of the word God for emotional reasons"

If you're an idiot, you'll be offended by this response.

(If you're not an idiot, you should know better than to assume motivations for disagreement.)

"I use the word God because this is the original sense of the concept of God."

[citation needed]

"This however, is the only question that really matters, because it is the question from which all other questions are made, and all facts of our life depend on its answer."

In another sense, the only thing that really matters is that you assume enough about the answer to this question to get shit done at a lower degree of abstraction. Anything can be reduced to the unanswerable question, but that doesn't mean reducing everything to the unanswerable question is useful or interesting.

@"If you believe that there are things that science cannot prove, then you should also accept that God could exist."

Science can't prove any theory. It is in the busines of disproving theories. There will never be proof of the theory of gravity, for example, merely proof that all the alternative theories we can cone up with are wrong.

The precession of the orbit of Mercury disproves Newton's theory of Gravity, Einstien's theory (general relativity) correctly predicts the precession.

God is untestable, you can always say that god created any evidence you detect, so no matter what, you can't disprove god. Therefore the theory of god is unscientific. Technically, you are then correct that God could exist. Fortunately you CAN twst theories of any specific 'God'. You can test our Thor, Zeus, Yahweh, Allah, etc. Each may be disproven. Each text which is claimed to be 'the word of god' can be shown to be false.

Likewise, the idea that this Universe is merely a simulation is untestable, any evidence we coould come up with to prove this isn't a simulation, could be simulated. Thus it is unscientific. Likewise with 'God' you can still test specific 'simulation' theories, and if the evidence is there for them, that is good evidence for reality being a simulation - we don't have any solid evidence for this theory today.

But on a philosophical level, it doesn't matter if this is a simulation; we definitely exist, even if we exist as a similation, that is still existance. Even of this were a just some dream, we would exist as a dream. We must still act like reality is all the is.

And in any case this doesn't address the unquestion 'why there is not nothing'.

"Anything can be reduced to the unanswerable question, but that doesn't mean reducing everything to the unanswerable question is useful or interesting."

This shit again. Ugh. I don't have the energy to spoon feed it to you, but yes it does change your life and your perspective when you care about things like the fundamental nature of reality.

Seriously though, this thread, just like every other one on webdip about metaphysics, is exhibit A as to how and why a purely physicalist/materialist/objectivist frame of mind is a severely limiting dogma, it completely prevents critical thinking on any deeper level, it reduces you to the status of a four function calculator. Kind of sad.

I didn't say the question isn't useful or interesting at all, or that nothing beyond material reality is useful or interesting. I said it's ridiculous to say that question is the *only* important question. But hey, thanks for making more baseless assumptions about me based on misreading what I say. I'm sure it makes you feel good to have something to be condescendingly sad about.

New World War I team game - played as 2 teams. Starting soon!
I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I'm not sure if it's been done before. Apologies if it's already been done. I've created a game called "WWI team game" and the idea is that we will recreate world war one by playing the game as 2 teams; the triple alliance consisting of Austria, Germany and turkey and the triple entente consisting of England, France and Russia.

The NWO game at Redscape is about to get a bit radioactive. If you haven't seen or played this massive variant, take a look. The GM and a few players put out some high quality press as well.
