Good game all. When I have more time later today I'll drop some thoughts on why I did what I did...particularly early in the game.
I will as well

bump for commentary from trip/friga.
Valis- I did go along with your unexpected friendship long enough to cripple Russia, but it just didn't make sense for me long term. I had already established a friendly border with Italy, which made your only route of expansion through me (or Italy, but that would be complicated and force me to pick a side). My mid-game goal was essentially to reach one side of the board so I didn't have 4 neighbors to worry about.

seth24c- I hoped to reassure you somewhat in S07 by moving my fleet to Albania, and I figured you wouldn't halfheartedly stab me because I had quite a few fleets lying around that could cause you some problems. Luckily for you, Germany started to rack up SCs and I kept the peace...

Gobbledydook- I'm curious, was yours the last draw vote to go up? As the gallery noted, I had been playing for the draw since S11. If you hadn't emerged as such a major power, I probably would have stabbed Italy and might have had a chance at a solo. That's what my fleet builds were for, but I first had to make sure I didn't hand you the game.

Peregrine- I have you to thank for my early game survival. You committed Italy to a stalemate grind on your border, which left me free to mess around with Russia/Turkey. So thank you.

Powow- I have to agree with the gallery, your early game was confounding and somewhat ill-advised. However, you did hold off Germany long enough for me to get established and stop them from getting the solo.

trip- I'd love to know what that army build in St. Petersburg was about, if you have the chance. You played a good tactical game- in the end, you just didn't have any allies.

Concerning the A-StP. Germany was my only ally after the first year and with Italy in Mar and England blocking Hol, I was the only neighbor of his who could actively help him. I felt that is was the build that offered the most versatility. In one turn i could be support holding Sev or sitting in Nor. It was not going to help me attack English home centers, but I don't see how anyone could look at the board and think that was an attainable goal for me.

That being said, '02 was terrible for me. I got outplayed on the 50/50 in Scandinavia and thought incorrectly that the AT alliance wouldn't make it through the year. Was that a huge gamble, especially in the south*? Sure, but if that alliance doesnt break my only chance is to hole up in Scandinavia and pray that at some point down the line I can retake my homeland. I saw some argument about my moving to the North Sea, but there's no way England leaves it open when he has F-London and no pressure from France.

Im not sure if it would have made a difference, but I really didn't want to be put in the position to have to stab Germany (why I had no allies in the end game). I was hoping that Italy would get the better of him, forcing Austria to stab.

Had I not stabbed and Germany soloed, people may have blamed Austria's fleet build. Instead I did the right thing and got thinned out for my troubles. Well played Friga.

*War-Gal-S-Ukr was a bad play no matter what I say I was trying to do.

I think that stabbing me was what Austria and Italy wanted to see you do. If you had waited another year or two and let me get even bigger, then you could set yourself up to be indispensable.

After all, a 17 sc Germany that is stalemated has exactly the same chance as a 13 sc Germany of winning - zero.

WebDiplomacy policy on restarting a game
I'm sure this type of topic has happened before. One of the players in "Friendly Mediterranean Variation" managed to 'ready' without any units being ordered. All units were held. Major screw up. Hurts the balance of the game. We are still kind of discussing the ramifications and what to do about the moves... but is it possible to either fix the moves for him? or restart the game with everyone playing the same countries?

Worst Mistakes in Diplomacy
I'm curious to know what people consider their worst mistakes in their entire Diplomacy career. Is it failing in a guaranteed solo? Messing up a secure draw? Being eliminated when you shouldn't have?

Diplomacy walk-on music
It's the year 2030. Diplomacy has finally taken its rightful place as one of the "big four" global sports, along with soccer, twenty20 cricket, and ultimate frisbee. The first million dollar tournament opens with hordes of screaming fans straining to glimpse you as you stroll to the game board, your walk-on music reverberating through the arena...

What is that music?

As of yesterday I have joined DiplomacyWeb. Also started a game right off, but I haven't got a clue how the digital side of playing is run.
Can anyone inform me (in the FAQ there wasn't any discription as to e.g. who is alotted to which country, where is the TAB to decide whether contestants can or can't mail to each other, etc) ?

Wanted: Thoughtful Discussion
I'm working on a project where I have to document the process of having a discussion with someone whose views I disagree with. The point of the assignment is to examine my own biases, and find ways to address them. So, since I consider myself liberal in most social and economic policy, I'm looking for an open-minded conservative to debate and discuss politics with. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. Thanks.
