Points in play calculation
All,

I have read the FAQ, but it seems to state that your points in play are the sum of point that you *bet*. Mine seem to exceed that, but may be correct if they are the "current value" rather than the "bet." I could do some tedious counting, but I imagine that most of the people here know, so please pardon the "lazy ask" of someone new to this site, but a long-term Dip player.

Anyone here tried Subterfuge?
Its an iOS/Droid game similar to Neptune's Pride somewhat. Slow Realtime where movement takes hours to days to resolve, no RNG, and based on the Diplomacy tradition of deception and alliances. The key difference to Pride is a toroidal map and a different win condition. Anyone else given it a go?

Simple rule question I'm unsure of.
Country 1: A sup B move C; B move C;
Country 2: C sup D move A; D move A;
My thinking is everyone bounces because both supports are broken. Is that right?

When Does A Draw Occur?
When does a draw occur? As soon as all players vote for draw...or when all players have voted for draw and the next turn is adjudicated? I ask because I am in a game where the draw votes are hidden.

Question about centers
If a nation has two territories, one with a center and one without, and they lose the one with the center, are they defeated? or do they get more chances to gain it back?

Rules question I couldn't find on FAQ.
I know support is cut when the supporting unit is dislodged, but what would happen in the following scenario:
Country 1: A->D; B Support A->D
Country 2: C->B; D Support C->B

spectating games
Is there a way to see the global chat in a game your not in? it wouldn't make it so that you could tell someone something they wouldn't have known otherwise like showing private messages would do. I'm just wondering if there is a specific reason why you can't.

Removing from game?
I joined a special game, but it quickly lost any sort of extra rules. I wouldn't mind, but it is a 10 day phase world map. Is it possible for a mod to remove me without taking a hit to my record?

Curiosity.
Mods can cancel games but can mods force draw? for example 3 players have played for weeks and a one player breaks a site rule implying the game should be cancelled but if the 2 remaining players agree to draw then can the mods force draw?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
20 Jan 16 UTC
Yes, we can. But we don't do it for cheating cases, because the cheaters will most likely have had an effect on which players are still alive and which players are not, so the result would be unfair on the players who were defeated.

Isnt it only if there is a clear stalemate line and someone is persisting on without giving a draw?
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

I think it's 3 years of no movement
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

Yes, we force draws during total stalemates as an absolute last resort. We prefer people to sort that out by themselves, though.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

Now, in the event of cheating which doesn't effect the game up to the point it happens. Say for example it is 1910 and England, Turkey and Russia are all close in strength and the only players. England, forgetting the game is anon mentions himself by name and breaks the site rues. Technically all 3 players fought correctly to get where they are; and as long as the game is drawn before the next move set is in; the rule breach has no affect on the game to that point. So, if the game was reported could the reporting player request a draw as opposed to a cancel?

This is the 2012 world finals... its still going... russia won't vote draw. and so no mod has forced a draw.
ghug (5068 D(B))

CB, revealing your own identity in an anon game isn't even against the rules, let alone a bannable offense. If a player is banned, we only force cancel games they were cheating in. It's up to the players the rest of the time.
Hastati (100 D)

@Reedeer That's not a stalemate at all though. It's an unending, mobile war. There's a difference. The stalemate rule in nearly every Dip community is for when it's a stalemate line situation where no SCs are changing hands, and the only reason it's still going is presumably one or more players are refusing to draw solely out of hope someone either NMRs or misorders.

I was under the full impression that circumventing game modes such as HDV or Anon through the use of other means such as PM or pictures was completely disallowed.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
20 Jan 16 UTC
not that I don't believe you but wouldn't that make anon completely useless if I could simply reveal my own identity?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

Anonymity is yours to break or keep, or pretend to be someone else entirely. A lot of players can work out who is who just from reading people's press to them, particularly in the top games.

Other circumventions might break rule 3.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
20 Jan 16 UTC
So change my example to someone sending a screenshot of their HDV games draw vote? That would be circumventing the HDV part of the game. In that instance, if it were reported with 3 players left and both other players preferred draw over cancel would you cancel instead of draw? for instance is there a appeal time for all players or just the accused?
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
20 Jan 16 UTC
It's not circumventing HDV because I can fake that screenshot in literally 10 seconds
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
20 Jan 16 UTC
Now that I know that I am employing that tactic in every game. I am now officially brainbomb whenever im in anon and will openly admit to this. I will also begin taking pictures of my draw votes and compiling a database to use for later games. mwah ha ha ..... the evil is limitless.... mwah ha ha
Hastati (100 D)

Fake the screenshot? Why fake the screenshot? It's much quicker to fake the page instead. Inspect Element is a powerful tool.
Hastati (100 D)
20 Jan 16 UTC
To clarify, I mean instead of messing and risking a pixel issue where someone can spot it, right click inspect element allows you to change how the page looks to the browser, which means your screenshot could not ever be seen as faked from a photoshop perspective at least.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
20 Jan 16 UTC
Currently, webdiplomacy allows screenshots (implicitly, since we have no rules about it). Screenshots aren't allowed on another Diplomacy site (PlayDiplomacy), because not everyone can fake them, and this isn't Photoshop Hero, it's Diplomacy.

I've said this before, but generally, I tend to think that you shouldn't do anything that might make the moderators decide we need more rules. We're not here to edit webpages, we're here to play Diplomacy. That said, maybe if someone sends you a doctored screenshot, and it changes your mind whereas just their word wouldn't, then maybe you deserve what's coming to you.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
21 Jan 16 UTC
inspect element.... so I looked into it and OMG this is awesome. I can make any webpage say anything long enough for a screenshot. I can make up Facebook posts and even CNN news stories
