I can think of two times, at least, when this alliance has really killed me (or could have). Still though, I have no idea how to arrange this one and hold it together. What are your thoughts/ experiences about this particular alliance?

RR question
what is the forumla for figuring our RR? just curious not complaining at all. see inside
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
29 Dec 15 UTC
I have 56% but neither my CD or NMRs are near to being 56%... how heavy are things weighted and how? as I said more curiosity. also trying to figure out what type of leg work id need to pull myself out.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
29 Dec 15 UTC
You have finished 73 games, and you have gone into CD 26 times??

What the hell, man? That's an appalling record. RR was created so that people wouldn't have to play with people who behave like you.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
29 Dec 15 UTC
like I said not complaining. just asking a question, about how it is weighted.

How come you're such a quitter, though? I'm actually curious.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
29 Dec 15 UTC
Hey now, Jamiet. There's no reason for that tone. RR is created so that people can play with people who are as least as reliable as themselves, not so that we can exclude people from all games.

CB: The formula is the same as vDip, which is (((NMRs/Phases) + (CDs/Games))/2)^3.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
29 Dec 15 UTC
well a large quantity of my CDs were for a mix of over committing myself (a noob mistake) and then in later instances poor internet connectivity; cutting out midgame. I admit some CDs have been out of pure poor judgement. My NMRs very similar. as a noob I would join 3 or 4 live games or 5 24 hour phase games and just simply get overwhelmed and not be able to keep up.

I apologise for my tone, and I suppose it's positive that you'd seek to redeem your RR.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
29 Dec 15 UTC
I'm still keen to have RR decay over time eventually, since some players do become more (or less!) reliable over time.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
29 Dec 15 UTC
RR decay, i could agree with but I think it would make sense only if the decay wasn't based on time but on games played or moves received. if it purely based on time then someone who simply stops playing would start to look more reliable. instead if someone like myself came back and played reliably that should be how it fixes. maybe set like a number X as the number of games back that CDs and finishes are counted toward your RR. (maybe the last 100 games and the last 500 moves) that would mean that fixing your RR was determined based on your ability to finish games and your continued reliability is rewarded by forgiving your sins.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
29 Dec 15 UTC
The current plan is to do something like Y months or X games, whichever includes more games. Having said that, this won't reach the top of the todo list for a while.
Jefe (100 D(S))

There are different reasons for CDing that have nothing to do with quitting. Many people may find themselves having to do more time at work, planned or not. Students can come up on test or exam weeks. Sometimes I have entered a game that is too fast, and realize it after the game has started. People can have emergencies. Let's see, I missed one lately because . . . too many holiday obligations. People may need a pause, but getting everyone to pause rarely seems to happen anymore.

In fact, it would be great if a "grace" period were allowed once per game per player, the grace period being an extra day, or phase length, or something the community found agreeable. After all, if we were doing it by e-mail, mods usually e-mail reminders for missing orders.

I meant to ask you ATC, I know a little php and I wanted to see if I were able to help do things for the site. You talked about a todo list and wanting people to take a look at it and I might be interested in doing some things in my spare time.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
29 Dec 15 UTC
^These are good ideas.

We have a better NMR prevention system in the works too, but it will be some time before I get around to working on it (again, if anyone with PHP knowledge wants to help out, we welcome help). Ideas aren't really the bottleneck for improving webdip - developer time is..

Yes, definitely, yoyo! The link is at the bottom of every page:

I've recently added a rating system for how difficult things are. Anything marked "easy" on the "soon" milestone would be a good first change.

Let me know if you need help installing a test server.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

I quite like the idea of allowing each player 1 free NMR per game which results in an extension of the phase by 1 unit of time. This should be an option when the game is set up since participants may not want to allow this on long phase games.
leon1122 (190 D)
29 Dec 15 UTC
@Jeff Kuta Isn't that used in vdip?
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

@leon1122: I don't know. I've only played a couple games on vDip (Austria vs France).

I've run the number a few times and interpreted the formula in a few different ways based on CB's stats, but I can't for the life of me find a way of looking at it that would end up with 56%. Could you plug in the numbers?

https://puu.sh/mcboN/4b862cd781.png

It's probably slightly different due to Anon games. 51 vs 56.
This is checkable in the code of webDip, which I did last time RR equation was brought up.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

Oh, note that "CD %" ACTUALLY means "nonCD %" and same for NMR %
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)

Apologies, I got the formula wrong. Here it is:

((
(100 * ( 1.0 - ((u.cdCount / (u.gameCount+1))))
+(100 * (1.0 - (u.nmrCount/(u.phaseCount+1))))
)/2 ) ^ 3)/10000)

(sorry for all the brackets. There isn't a good way to make this clear on the forum.)
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
29 Dec 15 UTC
u.reliabilityRating = (POW(((100 * ( 1.0 - ((cast(u.cdCount as signed) + u.deletedCDs) / (u.gameCount+1)))) + (100 * (1.0 - ((u.nmrCount)/(u.phaseCount+1)))))/2 , 3)/10000)

One last time, for readability, it is:

Take the %-didn't-CD
Take the %-didn't-NMR
Average them
Take the 3rd power

Example:
2 NMR in 100 moves
1 CD in 10 games

0.98 didn't-NMR
0.90 didn't-CD
Average: 0.94
0.94^3 = 0.83

This person would have an 83 RR
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)
29 Dec 15 UTC
Something I don't like about the current formula is that it's not really very clear what "54%" means in terms of how reliable we can expect a player to be.

I don't know where the formula originally came from (it's not my invention). Maybe it does have an easy interpretation, but I just don't know it.

My biggest issue with the current RR is that it doesn't take into account when games occurred. I have a sub-90% RR, which is very unrepresentative of how I play now, because I had a lot of CDs back in 2010-2013, mainly (exclusively?) from live games. I still play live games on occasion, but I don't CD as much.

I mean hell, I just checked, and I have only 1 CD in all of 2015 (2 in 2014), and all of my CD from 2013 to now is from live games. NMR is similar until the past two weeks or so (holidays killed me in some ongoing games...).

Decay would be awesome. A separate live games RR system would be even better.
